Default Wide Top Bases

OK, how can you tell a "wide top" base vs a regular base if you do not have them to compare side by side?

Is this a stupid question? I hear talk of the wide top base, but are there any markings, dimensions, etc...that you can use to recognize them?

The widetops have less of the dial visible when viewed from the top of the base...These bases seem to make nice smooth and stable platforms....good for speed, but not necessarily the strongest. They often play LB, SS, FS or TE on my teams.
