We allow the fallen players to be stood back up , unless the player has been ran over. In that case the knocked down player is considered injured and not able to return til the next quarter

The Answer
@STT: When a player falls down on the field he can not be picked up until the next stoppage.
If the player falls down durring a tackle, it is ruled a broken tackle. If the runner falls down when he is tackled he is simply down, however some may view this as in injury and can be out for one play, this is the referee call.
