Andre's Rule (the Box for passing) - Part 1
This is the first of three messages regarding "Andre's Rule" (passing with the box). Jim Davis and I are both using the box for our CBSMF games this season. Here is a link to the rules.
This first email is a quick note about a variation to the rules that I made to make measurement easier. The rules state that the distance between the QB and Receiver should be measured base-to-base (closest distance). This proved to be difficult if there were players in the way (e.g., lineman, defensive players). You end up holding the "ruler" above the board and eyeballing the distance. The change I made was to measure helmet to helmet, not base to base. This is much easier to measure, since you can hold the ruler right up to the two helmets. But, this adds about 5 yards to the measurement on average (since the helmets are further apart than the closest parts of the bases). So I adjusted the passing chart, adding 5 yards to all the values. Here's an example. The red line (base-to-base) is 15 yards. The blue line (helmet to helmet) is about 20 yards. By adding 5 yards to the chart, you can use helmet-to-helmet measurement. This speeds up box passing even more, and makes the boarderline measurements easier. Jeff |
