A New Passing Stick
Had an idea running through my head. I played a bit of QB in high school (can you say NOT a career opportunity ) I was thinking about passing sticks and more so about that it is a 40 yard stick, which is seperated into 2 sections (3 if you include past 40 yards)
I was thinking back and there is a big difference between a 8 yard pass and an 18 yard pass. not to mention a 22 yard pass and a 35 yard throw. I was thinking if it might be an idea to make a set of sticks that are broken up every ten yards. (so 10,20,30,40) Something like the small stick being broken down into 3,6,10,14, and 18 yard distances) My basic thinking is that short passes (under 10 yards. The swing pass etc) would be a bit easier to complete (not to mention you would never lead a receiver that far in the first place) but those 10-20 and 30-40 yard passes would be a touch tougher. Any thoughts from the guys that use passing sticks? |

I don't know, I like the 3 sticks. More sticks...Why not, it can work, but what I like in the current buzzball-like system is the fact you rarely have to make a very precise measure. I explain, it's rare you have a measure right on the middle of the measurement ruler or on the end of the ruler. Most of the time, the game situation is crystal clear in 1second. No argument, or whatever. IN fact, after a few plays, with my friends we do not measure each pass, because we directly now it's a red, white, or blue. We keep the measure only on complex situations or on critical moments of the game. It's fast, probably even faster than using the TTQB.
If you add some new passing values (each 10yards, or even a 3rd color on the measurement ruler) and you'll loose time (need to measure it very precisly) and create situations of possible arguement. But every tastes are in nature...what we say here in France

Tray passing ranges!!
Simply designate areas of the field, from the LOS-10 yards is a 3 yard stick, 11-20 is a 5 yard stick and so on.

If a QB in the pocket makes an 15 yard (from LOS) pass there is a big difference between over the middle and an out on the sideline in distance the ball travels. Using passing sticks does make the sideline pass harder. However I thought your idea of a QB rolling right and throwing left as an example was very well thought out! Adding distance to that throw was a very good idea. |

The one thing is that it holds true to football, and like runnung the ball stick passing is done with the board on thus allowing for the players on field to make the play.
