just for fun....
i was thinking back lastnight while in my lab working on some stuff after work and started thinking about the very first time i played EF with my friend back home. I thought back about how little i knew back then and how much i know now and it just blows me away.
Just thinking about my first ever superbowl win against my friends steelers with my oilers..my runnng back earl campbell ran for like 180 yards and all i knew about that base was if i rubbedtheprongs across my blue jeans about 3 or 4 times...then put him on the field he would get behind his line and just truck whoever was in front of him...but i never knew why that worked. So..just for fun i took 22 players from my collection...some oilers and some buccaneers..took some untweeked rookie and dial bases straight from the pack just like we used to do and played for about and hour or so... man it was a blast from the past...runner headed up field..just to turn around and head back again... ahhhhhhh memories..... try it sometime...it is a blast..

In my youth I always remember the one guy spinning around in circles in the end zone. Every play. Snap of the ball he'd just head that way.

i remember a clutter of guys on the sideline with my ball carrier behind them, but not out of bounds yet. i would amp up the board to try and "jump" him free. sometimes he just did the vibra jump and went the wrong way. Oh well, safety!
I LOVED IT!!!!

If Tudor had come up with the concept of tweaking the bases back in the 70's, then the game would be much more popular today. That...and a good sound tutorial on passing...would have turned this game from a rather quaint memory for some to a mega hobby! Virtually every young American male played electric football or was exposed to it back in the 70's...frustration with the mechanics of the game kept it from becoming as big as Nintendo or similar sensations!
What is the history of base tweaking? I would love to know who came up with the idea and when the idea really began to spread. That is what resurrected this hobby to its status today. Unfortunately, it is hard to compete with the computer era...the youth of today are generally more excited about digitally based entertainment. |

OH YEAH
I REMEMBER A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER X-MAS OF 69, MY FRIEND CALLED ME OVER TO SHOW ME HIS NEW FOOTBALL GAME WHICH WAS THE BROWNS VS THE GIANTS, AND SINCE HE WAS A GIANTS FAN I HAD THE BROWNS , WE MUST HAVE PLAYED FOR HOURS NEXT THING I KNEW IT WAS DARK OUT AND WE PLAYED TRENCH WARFARE FOR A GOOD THREE HOURS, NEITHER ONE OF US KNEW HOW TO PASS SO WE WERE CONTENT ON RUNNING EVERYPLAY UP THE GUT,WE QUIT ABOUT 8.30 WITH A 6-6 TIE , WE DIDNT KNOW HOW TO KICK SO WE WOULD JUST GO FOR TWO POINTS.
THOSE WERE THE DAYS . |
