Boat Bases
Hey Folks,
Can any of you explain, in as much detail as possible, how you go about tweaking boat bases for the receiver position? In particular the rookie 1st generation pro-line boat bases. Moderators, if at all possible, please give this one a little time before you move it. Thx! -Adrian- |

The one that I have I quickily flashed all of the prongs with a lighter, and just gave a very light squeeze to all of the prongs, squeezing the entire prong.
For the most part, it runs fast and somewhat straight, but it does tend to do a 180 in the open field, on occasion. It runs correctly most of the time, though.

gentle squeezes with heated pliers and you get some serious speed and a slippery WR base.

Thanks Fellas!
Hmmm... So... it's just that simple?
When I am back to tweaking the boat bases, I will try that approach. I am able to get the boats to get open, but I have not been successful in getting them to respond like some of my opponent's boat bases. The coaches I've played against in the past that use boat had boat bases that were just ridiculous. They got open with the quickness and they ran for a much longer distance with consistency... more so than my tweaks. I've asked this question before of my opponents, but I just can't remember their responses. Thanks again Fellas! -Adrian- |

Take it from the Guy Who Originated Frankensteining
AB,
I give so many secrets away and this is one that some may not want me to but you're one of the cerebral thinkers of the game and I always want you to win. This is what I do: On a boat bases, I put an old school rookie QB base under it. I cut the QB sides off, which essentially makes for a flat piece that goes under the boat base. Cut out all the insides of the boat base. I use super glue and accelerator to permanent join the two pieces. If this does not work, Elmers glue and super glue are a very good permanent combination. Once this is done, the tweaking is really minimal if you've got a high quality QB base. The base has great speed and the center of gravity is right in the middle. I can only speak from my figures so I know they work pretty good right away. I use them more as the wide receiver and often on tightends because they will slide off the LB and be right in the passing seams of the defense. The slot position allows them to force the defense to use a cover corner there. It also depends on if you play in a league which allow unlimited corners because it is difficult to get away in that type of scenario. Also, if stacking of receivers is not allowed, it's difficult to battle away. Chances are not as great in some rulesets as others but he will will have his opportunities. These players should be able to go 100 yards in 3-4 seconds, depending on board speed. But frankensteining great players from what people thought was nothing has created some of the best WRs today. Thanks for the insights
AB - the few times I saw your boats they were quite good.
Uncle Reg - i like the fact that frank-n-stien bases are another way to be creative in this hobby and in the CBSMF I have seen some good ones so far. |
