Technology Question: Is there a way...
to take a DVD that you burn to a DVD recorder and play it back over the internet?

so you have a DVD and you want to play it online (like load it to youtube?)?
you can do this! you need to find a program to "rip" the DVD (take its contents from the disk to the computer). I am on a mac so i use a program called "Mac the Ripper". It breaks the region encoding on the disc and imports the Video_TS and Audio_TS files. next you need a program able to patch together and convert the VOB files in the VIDEO_TS file into a .mpg or .divx or .avi file that you can play on your computer / load to a video sharing site (like youtube, vimeo, viddler etc). to do this conversion I use a program called VisualHub. (it sounds complicated... really it only takes 2 clicks of the mouse when you have the right software) |

You're right
you need to find a piece of software compatible with your system (windows, mac, linux) able to convert dvd to .divx, xvid or avi. Make a google search with that key words, and you'll find something for sure. Be aware that converting to divx (proprietary format) or xvid (free format) will certainly be the better choice, because it will shrink the size of the file a lot, what is a good point to put online content for downloading or streaming. |
