Default The SWC and Big 10 Represent: You can't expect people to...

come your way if you don't come their way!

No disrespect to other conferences but you got to ask yourself, "Why would I continue to come your way when you don't come my way?" My favorite conference, the Big 10, even in a down year of representation, represented!!!! The Big 10 would usually travel 10 strong! Even in a down year for play-off participation, their presence was felt. They always have a huge impact in the game but guys like Detroitchild, Norbert, TheChamp07, Marty, and WolverineFan were not able to get there. But you know something, their work has been etched in stone. The CBSMF should fall on a knife to do something in that conference because it has always led the way when relating to the CBSMF. They have learned the rules, taught the game to others, and have traveled strong for the CBSMF.

It was great to see the SWC come up big. Between the eventual national champion (Texas), the runnerup (Tech), along with Barry Stephenson, RD, Earnest and myeslf, it was great to see the presence. I know I've had discussions with the CBSMF staff about someday coming to Texas to play but like anything, that should always be based on support.

If the CBSMF does ever decide to go to different venues, it should be made clear that if you don't "scratch the league's back, why are we scratching yours?" Not trying to be mean and single any conference out but we need everyone participating in the CBSMF who are membered schools. It's your obligation to be there. There has been talk of travel possibilities and to areas that have not supported the CBSMF well. Up the road, this should not be the case as all conferences ranging fromthe PAC10, Mountain West, SEC, Big 10, ACC, Big East, Independents and those that will follow.

So don;t expect the CBSMF to come to you if you remain isolationist and travel with only 1 or 2 people. It's not fair to those who constantly give back.

Default I can only speak for myself

As individuals with our own life situations we all have choices to make: where we spend our money, who we want to share our time with etc.

As being part of a conference that did not play many games and only sent two coaches to the CBSMF I can understand some of your statement. However, in my own case I believe that I did give back. I only played in one game (against you - nice win by the way) . Besides that I spent an abundance of my time supporting the CBSMF.

During the season I was part of the rules committee spending quite a bit of time trying to make them as comprehensive as possible. At the playoffs I ended up reffing three different games spending a disproportionate amount of my time (as compared with other people) "supporting" the CBSMF. This was basically done at the expense of spending more time with my son Zack (which will never happen again).

It has been my experience that if you want to recruit more people to join something, you have to go to them - you cannot expect them to come to you. So by saying that the CBSMF will not go to other venues will further limit its growth in my opinion.

Reggie, you may say, "well Joe this was not intended toward you". If that is the case then you should be more careful making blanket statements as you never know who you may offend.

Default Not trying to offend my friend...

and this is not aimed at any conference or individuals in particular. I know you work and do more than the average 10 guys put together. I am not trying to offend anyone but I do think it is important that support is a two-way street.

I see you take two trips out to the West Coast and play. That's support that can is unconditional. I know the economy is strapping people. Lord only knows I know that all too well.

When people ask, "Why don't they come our way?", you've got to look at "Did you come their way?". You certainly want to grow the league by reaching out to others. We will be in Atlanta in 6 weeks reaching out to coaches who may be interested in sharing in what we do. However, in turn, you would like to see those coaches reach back to us to become a part of what we do.

This league has the makings of something special if participation levels are high for the playoffs. But that does mean some leagues may need to put more into making a concerted effort to make it special for everybody by traveling to places and showing their presence.

No,there are guys out west and guys out east who would do anything to be there. Celo represents the PAC10 well every year and Turner would have been here. I miss my friend Shabby J. I0 I know if he could, he would. We've talked about it. Ajah was all prepped to come. I know these guys do what they can to be here! I know the Big East is one of our anchor conferences. Mozeek and Dru Sparks was dying because they could not make it. I know guys like this give back. All the time! But this league grows if there is a concerted effort not just by you Joe, or Greg to make things work. It takes everybody -all hands on deck! Then, no one feels that they don't want to help scrub the deck if it pulls into the PAC10, or the ACC, or the SWC, or Big10 or CUSA, or the Mountain West or any other conference that becomes a part of it.

Default Can of Worms

That's one heck of a statement and I am offended. The CBSMF location is a sore subject with me.

Reg, season one, the PAC 10 did everything to support and promote the CBSMF, even though you pulled the championship locale right out from under us, AFTER it was decided and VOTED on by the prospective coaches that Vegas was to be the location.

Then you make a blanket statement like this. I am speaking only for myself and no one else out here, but, come on.

I do not understand this at all and I see the beauty of the blanket statement allowing an out by saying "oh, I was not referring to you".

This is not the forum for me to argue anymore, I promised Wolf I would tone it down, but I will respond when I think it appropriate.

Things like this are not good for the expansion of the CBSMF in general.

You guys just has an excellent experience, fun and fellowship, then you drop this on here.

Default BUSINESS PURPOSES.

HEY SHAB,

The cbsmf was moved for business purposes. It was a better option to do it jointly with the mica convention. It would have failed miserably if it went to vegas the first year starting out. maybe in a few years it can succeed out west somewhere.

thanx mantaraydre

What are you talking about Dre? Business purposes, is the CBSMF designed to make a profit? Business, what business, who's business, your business, my business???!!!

It was VOTED on by all prospective coaches and agreed, then taken out from under us, how else am I supposed to react to a blanket statement like this?

Default No Shabby, I think you are right

I know one of the things that excited the PAC10 was the knowledge that guys would finally come west to play. Getting the CBSMF some good foundation was important as I remember the post well about potential playoff spots. Vegas was definitely at the top of many list (probably most). That has never changed!

Now, I have no more say in it than you or any other CBSMF member. I think the PAC10 proved itself well, leading the way in year 1 and 2 with the kick-off classics y'all put together.

I would hope if any conference is rewarded first, it would be the PAC10. I think the CBSMF could top more than 100 coaches by next season. What a milestone if that is the case. But like anything, that contingent of coaches need to help people understand why go there?

Personally, I love Vegas but that's just me but the more coaches get involved and hype up the game, the more the choice to come to an area will be prime. But again, I have no horse in the race or no vote.

Default i hear you.

Reg,

the big ten conference represented big time from day 1.

Joe g, reg is definitely not talking about you. He is aware of everything you do for the cbsmf. I told him you offered to sit down with me in ny or nj to go over strategy and learn the style better.

What if the cbsmf went to chicago. I hear its a easy drive for coaches in the big ten. Also, it is cheaper to fly into chicago for coaches from texas. Any coach from ny to nj it is a quick flight.

THANKS TO CELO WHO FLEW FROM CALI 2 YEARS IN A ROW. THANKS TO RICK (OFFENSIVE LINE) GARRISON WHO FLEW IN FROM CALI.

THANX TO NED FLANDERS WHO REPRESENTED LAST YEAR ALL THE WAY FROM CALI.

i know where reg is coming from, we all knew for an entire year that the championship series was coming back to canton. An entire year, he just wanted you to come and enjoy the festivities.

maybe next year.
