The fatigue factor.....
Last year I played 40 games for the season, 2 playoff games and 1 championship game. So far this year I've played 30 games for my current season, and I've noticed something that has been occuring for some time. During the course of some games, it appears that one team will just plain get 'tired', or 'worn out'. I say this because they will start out playing great ball. The offense is clicking and the defense is all over the field. At least for the first half. Then in the second half, the offense sputters. The holes that were there before aren't there anymore. The receivers seem to run slower. The defense, which was doing a great job in the first half, is letting the other team run more and more. The safeties and corner backs start missing tackles. They end up losing the game, when they looked like the much better team in the first half. I can't figure it out. I'm not doing anything different from half to half, and it doesn't happen all the time, just once in awhile. Has anyone else run into this?

Perhaps it 's a question about your board "flow" sense. I noticed that on my own board (one motor in a EZ), one side (from EZ to EZ) was slightly faster than the other one. It seems that the vibrations have a sense, like sea waves. So the bases react better in a sense than in the other one.
Since the teams swap their board side on halftime...perhaps it explains the phenomenon. |

Well, that would be a good theory, except that I switch directions after each quarter, just like in real life. It doesn't rerally seem to matter which way they are going, they just seem to tucker out after the half, or by the 4th quarter.

Al, the players are...
real. They play with heart! They play with purpose! And they make mistakes!
Anyways, that sounds good - what you are saying. For once, I really don;t have a logical answer on that. I always thought in my world of "Regggie-believe", that some teams did get slower, weaker, and unable to finish in games. I've also noticed teams intensity pick up in some stages of the game where the other team's intensity lessen. I don't know, I guess it's just my way to not since that maybe I am crazy being so enamored with these little plastic figures. Al, if they look tired, and seem to play tired (in your eyes), by golly then, they are tired! If it looks like a duck and walk like a duck, D A M N I T, then it's a duck! |

yea. its prolly(probably) a combo, you getting tired, and the motor heating up, and the prongs collecting dust/softening slightly from the warmth of the board.

Al, Isn't the 4th quarter when your medication kicks in? Maybe have your nurse give it to you at halftime instead of before the game.

what do you expect from a bunch of bozos...
Quote:
However on a serious note, Al I have observed this in the past because someone brought it to my attention some years ago. If i may indulge the story.... ... in those days, my teams were maybe 20 players total. Within that I used only one O-line/D-line - 5 guys that played the game both ways. So while I am playing Dale Smith he asked my "had I noticed my line getting tired during the game?" while I said no and thought nothing else about it until the next time we played and paid attention to the fact...well sure enough they started having the effects that you described Al... Now let me ask you one question Al .... Are you playing both ways ... meaning that the offense plays defense too?? Go to 35 plus players and use subs and that way they will be fresh players.......

Lynn, you may be on to something. Those suppositories the nurse gives me do make me a little drowsy, not to mention they leave a bad taste in my mouth. Can't they make those things cherry flavored or something?
Kel, I have seperate offense and defenses, so going both ways isn't an issue. Reggie, I too have noticed that sometimes my teams seem to be more 'up' for their games than other times. Last year, after clinching a playoff spot early, the Mennonites just seemed to take it easy for their last 2 games, which they lost, then carried it over into the playoffs where they just couldn't get their winning mentallity back on track and lost again. This year they have been a mess, very inconsistent. Meanwhile, the Third Reich, who were awful last year, seem to have turned themselves around and are playing very well. Go figure???

Kel, I forgot that I do have 1 team that is playing iron man, Weirdwolf's Werewolves. You may be on to something with them. They started the year very strong, now they just seem to be going through the motions, like they've lost all interest. Maybe they're just taking after their leader. Sound familiar Lynn???

Tired Players
Believe me after all these years, the players all have their own personality. In solitare leagues over the years, I have seen teams have the same kind of season as their real life ones do. I did play ironman style, and if I change the name of the player, the player usually acts differently. I sometime feel like they are psycologicly channelling their own aura in to the game.
