Yeah . . . that play was totally bizarre! That's the only word I can think of that adequately describes what would've been an easy TD if it weren't for #99 moving his right arm toward his left as he approached the end zone. Whether he was trying to secure the football, or change the side on which he was carrying it, (why he'd even bother I've got no clue, since he was almost over the goal line anyway).

Try explaining that one to your coach!

I did the same thing when I was teenager, playing rugby ! The ONLY ONE time I had the opportunity to touch the ball and make a try, I lost the ball

I never touched the ball again

Default The Box: We have a love/hate relationship

I have a love/hate relationship with the box. In Los angeles...only the defense is allowed to shake the box, and the box can not be shaken while the offensive coach is in the process of passing. It must be shaken at the beginning of the play (at the snap of the ball), or at any time after the reception/end of the play. The box can not be shaken once the offensive team begins to separate his men. I like the box because it adds the element of real football (holding, illegal motion, offsetting penalties (double 2's in L.A.) etc, but it can get out of hand if the dice work against you. I only shake the box in times of desperation (when my opponent scores, or makes a play for a huge gain), or if I'm trying to deliver the knockout blow. I usually chill on the box because it can often work against you. When we first adopted the Shootout Rules in 2000, we allowed both offense and defense to shake the box on any given play, but we changed it the following year to only the defense, because the box was taking over the game. It became a crutch, and something would come up on the box almost every play. I can understand some coaches having a huge problem with the box. I'm just like everybody else...I love the box when it works for me, but hate it when it works against me. I trip off of opponents who shake the box on every play...actually, I like when they shake the box when I have a minimal gain, or no gain. By doing so, there is a chance that it can work against them, by giving me a 1st down, or a extra down to make a big play.

Default My take

I love the addition of the box in EF. I love the added element of realism to the game. What I don't like is what Kotixblack pointed out and that's a reliance on the box. I'm not crazy about games where it is shaken on every play. Perhaps only allowing coaches to shake it a certain # of times during a game would help.

In Los Angeles with the box being limited to only the defense it does cut down on a lot of ridiculousness the box can bring into the game.

When the Texas guys came to the first Open Run and were wanting to shake on EVERY play it was very strange to me, nothing against them, that is their rule set.

I hate the box and really think it too often becomes a crutch to lean on. To be honest I feel bad when I get a good shake and negate a critical play for my opponent. Why should dice take away a great gain that occured due to my poor play calling or players that did not execute?

The box is part of Los Angeles MF culture and I accept that fact. I'd rather play without it, but I do shake it only because it is there and I know my opponent is always going to reach for it.

To win a game because of the box is not a gratifying victory to me. I want to know I played heads up and whipped your arse because my plays were called better, executed better, etc...

The box is Shootout style and I have made it a part of my MF life. Just like my dad used to tell me when I was a kid, "You don't have to like it, just do it!".

. . . count for something. No knock just stating the obvious. I can see the penalties, that's fine, but there are other elements with that box that came to light, at least for me, this year that speaks directly to the credibility of the style as well. I am open to anything in the hobby but having said that we need to add some elements of the Shootout style to a national ruleset and everyone needs must be flexible to gain compliance.

Just my thoughts.
