Default Repainting players

What is everyones feelings on repainting old players. I am hesitant to do it in fear of dropping the value, but I have a set of 49er big men that look really bad.
What is everyones thoughts, thanks

Collectables Such As Original 67 Bigmen Are Normally Not Repainted Unless You Plan To Use Them On Your "playing Team".

That Would Go For Most Of The Blk Shoe Teams, Hog Legs And Haiti Originals.

Default Repainting

If you are interested in keeping them for value's sake, do not paint. People who are or may be looking for these in the future do not want repaints.

Any of the collectible years/types/styles as was mentioned should not be painted, unless you don't care about the value and are going to make playable squads from them, again as mentioned.

Many old antiques and collectibles are ruined in value because someone painted/refinished/polished, etc...people who collect certain things want the original patina/look and or finish.

Sure, original big men in mint condition would be worth more, but repaints are probably about as valuable as the were in the shabby condition before you started, or less even.

That's my two cents...

heck, i may want them as an old college team if they are really that bad. let me know, i have Texas and Oklahome painted on old original bigmen, and i love them, they have the hi hip pads and some have long sleeves, im guessing someone painted them a long time ago.

Default Repaint

Thanks for all the advice, I guess that was the direction I was heading anyway.
Now for a second question, what about fixing the players. Say you have a broken base or broken arm? Would that deminish the value?

yes it knocks it down a little, but if you have the part that is broken, it helps keep some of it's value.
