Default mobile quarterback rule?

What do you guys think about having a rule that says your qb must be mobile at all times. I have been thinking about making my solitaire league this way. Here is how it would work.

1. The qb would be on a base that "drops back", but no further than 20 yards. This would force the coach to watch the qb and the wr's.

2. You could also put a time limit on the drop back. You could have the clock set at 3 seconds at which time the coach has to stop the board and pass or scramble. The scramble would not be as threatening as it is now, because not enough time has lapsed to make the middle wide open. This is why a lot of leagues won't allow scrambling.

3. You could allow the qb to sit in the shotgun, but with the time limit, he wouldn't have all day to sit there with the board running even if the rush isn't there. What do you guys think?

That is a good rule even in solitaire play. The reason is because you give your QB more options. You can design plays where the QB rolls out or runs on a bootleg. Just my .02 cents worth.

Default My take

I have three QB's ;that all do something different. I have a stand still, a mobile, and one on an ITZ base to do all kinds of things. Having a mobile QB with options helps set up different plays during the game. This is why mobile Qb's in the NFL are must. Look at the old guy Brett Farve; still tossing 80yds. because he can move a little and scramble.

you don't have see no #$^$% video to pick that up!

if you are going to use a moblie QB, set your guideline to have him "pull away from center on every play" this way he can incorporate all types of "steps" roll-out; short drop, 7-step.....

We play with a 3-second stop rule in our Pro league....it works great with timers.

O-schemer,

Great ideas! I've always played this way where the QB must be moving. It makes it more difficult for the D to loop in and sack him. I also use a 3 sec clock. It helps keep the offense honest...
