Make The Right Call!
Football Fans,
I justgot finished wacthing the Ravens Vs. Browns! The Ravens are horrible to say the least, but in the second half they showed some character. The Browns played some good football. Tonight you will see a Phil Dawson kick, hit the left upright bounce onto the "Butt" or cross section of the field goal post and land on the field of play in the endzone. WOW!!! How would you call it even though it passed through it came back out? What do you call that? Anyway, The kickoff return before this attempted field goal had to be the Play of the Day! Some dude named Cribbs for the Browns returned the kick off and blazed down field! This carried the entire Ravens and browns on his back for about 40-50 yards. Man I hope that run makes the highlights.. It was one of those plays that would make you say, "Just Lovely!" "Simply Lovely!" Make the Right Call? |

What a heck of a field goal!
I saw that footage on CBS 100 times. There is no doubt it was a good field goal. It hit the upright went over the cross bar, landed on the rear cross support and bounced back onto the field. There should have been no question right from the start, there were two officials under the goal post looking right at the ball as it bounced off the support.
Calling it a good field goal was the right thing to do. I've never seen 'em that close in MF, have you? Shabby J |

He is right
Once the ball passes through the up rights and over the cross bar it is good.

Directv
I've got Directv NFL Ticket and I was watching that game too when that happened.
I'm not a Ravens or Browns fan. I'm a die hard Vikings' fan. Anyway, when I saw it happen live, I did tell Nathan (my 9 year old son) that I thought it hit the back part, the bracket part of the goal post, and I was honestly not sure what the rule was when I saw that happen. I've never seen anything like that before. But I said, "I think it's just like soccer or hockey, once the ball or puck goes over that line, even though it may come back out, it's still a goal" The part that I dont like is that, the ruling on the field was NO GOOD. And they said that this type of play is NOT reversible by replay. The two back line judges clearly signaled NO GOOD, and the players started walking off the field, Romeo Crennell looked like he was going to cry. Then all of a sudden, they said, wait a minute, they are going to review it. Wait a second, the announcers just said that a play like that is NOT reveiwable. And yet they did review it Well, if that is the case then the Ravens got ripped off. :o Last edited by BigFranco : 11-19-2007 at 11:19 AM. |

Not mad about it, but...
Fellas,
I know AB has been preaching about reff'n and calling plays and I knew this would get his attention. This was a good example of knowing the rules of playing a game. I understand breaking the plan, but the goal post is an instrunent like a basket ball goal. In "B" ball that kick would have been a swirling brick! I always assumed that a extra point or field goal had to pass through the goal. But if that joker came back out then I would have ruled it NO GOOD! ****! I'm convinced that The Baltimore Ravens Organization need to re-evaluate : The name of this Team! Fire Brain Billick! Elimante all of those old has beens and the young want ta bees and get some real down in the dirt FootBall players. This is the same reason we ran the Colts out of Baltimore. The Days of Da' Bum Fights must come to an end. |

In Mf
...I've seen kicks hit either upright - in different games, of course! and bounce in. I've seen kicks get reeeeeejected by the uprights as if Hakeem The Dream were goaltending!!! I've seen them hit the crossbar and bounce up and over. I've seen it kicked straight through, hit the netting and bounce back out. Ruling on the field was GOOD!!!
Oh yeah, we play with cutouts sometimes and sometimes just the regular goalposts - Home team's choice - and if it doesn't go thru the cutout or if it goes higher than the uprights and there's just a hint of doubt, then it's NO GOOD!!! Meaning, we learn how to aim our kicks, we don't just launch rockets. |
