Default How do you do Fumbles ?

With the many leagues out there, I want to know how do you do fumbles in you're style of play and why ?

I understand that the many styles out there are like cultures and have there own unique customs.

In America we shake hands when we greet, in Japan you bow, I think the Italians kiss on the cheek, well hope you get the idea.

I hope this weill help us to respect all the cultures of this hobby.

Anthony,
In our solitaire league, me make the ball carrier actually hold the ball while running. Additionally, we use a heavy felt ball (I like those miggle ice cream sandwich balls for that) and force the offense to place it on top of the open arm of the runner. It has to be outside the body, it cannot be tucked. We still don't have many fumbles, but once in a while we do and it is fun when it happens.

I have seen leagues where if the defender tackles the runner in the back of the base it is a fumble, or when two defenders tackle a runner simultaneously. Whatever works for you, as long as it is fun.

In the BMEFA, we use a bit of a different version of the fumble man rule based on what I first saw used in the TBA several years ago. Each team designates their FM before the game. If that player makes a solo tackle, a coin is flipped. Heads=fumble; tails=no fumble. If there's a fumble, the defensive coach then calls a second flip in the air and id correct, possession switches there and that's that. There is no fumble return since, by definition, the player recovering is already "down" by the touch of an opposing team's base.

Default BEFL version

We do the same thing like Roo and BMEFA except that we have 3 players who can cause a fumble....

.... it has been great to get more players involved in causing turnovers...INTS are hard to come by.....

Default Fumbles in the MPFL

In the culture of MPFL fumbles are caused when a defensive's players hand, helmet or other body appendage is touching the ball when the board stops.

Learning from the one common element that in actual football that fumbles occur when someone strikes at the ball in an effort to cause a fumble we stay with that common factor.

With this any player can cause a fumble, however a fumble over rules a broken tackle, and a tackle over rules a fumble as the runner is down by contact.

To recover a fumble, any free player, ( not touching a player on the other team ) can be turned to recover the ball, recovering the ball is the same as completing a Pass Placement pass, hitting the ball with the front part of the base.
