Pass Completion Rules
What do leagues or even as individuals call a completion?
Do you have to hit the intended receiver or it's base with the ball in the air or does anyone allow the ball to slide/skim the field surface first then hit the player or base and call that a completion? Just wondering what most of you are playing like. I get a felling you are going to say the ball must hit the figure or it's base first without hitting the field.

DFW Style
Coach,
In the DFW, we can throw to receivers who are engaged. To us, this is just a player who is caught up in heavy coverage, jockeying for position. If it hit any part of his base or body (on the fly), it is considered a catch. There is no rule to pointing out who the intended receiver is. Usually, we know right away. The official will ask, "Who are you throwing to?" If a receiver is wide open, a completion is considered anywhere whether its the base or the figure. When you throw to athletes who are engaged, only one good thing can happen and 2 bad things can happen. The 1 good thing is the player catches the pass and the 2 bad things are that it can be picked off or it can be an incompleted pass. But we love having those possibilities as it brings more focusing skill to the passing game. Couple that with games being played in stadiums and those passes don't seem so easy then. Reg |
