Default Offensive Line Play

Back in 1996, I introduced lateral base play to members of my league. This was an advancement in the game unheard. In the Shootout rules, this is strategical scheme which plays out well because audibles are allowed in the Shootout system.

This takes away a type of play based solely on power. This definitely brings finesse into the game. When we created O-Linemen, the original stock poses were not created with this in mind. When I began to create custom linemen, who main purpose was to ward off on-rushing linemen and buy extra time for the QB as well as create a wider range of motion for the linemen, it made (at least my team) more diversified in what we could do.

Many people will never use this because in their eyes, it leaves many holes open. But under the Shootout rules system, this is the perfect scheme for my "West Coast Offense". On EVERY play, a hole or two is open. I've just got to know the reads and where to go.

Study the movement of the athlete. Look at the arm extension as well as how in just this short clip, you can see potentially more than 20 different running plays based on straight zone blocking.

Also, at the end of the clip, you will see an actual screen pass play being shown. The only thing I did not do is actually throw the ball. I did allow the D-linemen to come on in but it opened everything up. The defense had no idea where the linemen were going.

and click on "Offensive Line Movement". It will take a moment for the movie to download but I explain with words what's ready to happen. Tell me what you think about the play.

Reg, I assume those are Munro or ITZ dials, I have some of both and have yet to try them, can you get enough strength out of these to run a head on or wedge block line scheme or do you switch those figures at times for some linemen with other bases? Seeing that a big part of this is the element of surprise, the opponet can't tell what direction the bases are gonna go so you want to keep bases with the same dials in them that makes swapping out for standard TTC bases/dials not an option during the game.

I guess what I am asking is if those are the same linemen/base combos you use the entire game?

Default Here's the easy YouTube Link for Line Play

You are absolutely right on the element of surprise. Because of the versatility of these bases and the players (when I reference athletes, I am talking base + player =athlete), these players can go straight ahead on simple dive plays, move laterally, at angles for zone blocking. I run power sweeps with a combination of these bases and TTC bases. I will do a slow-mo demo on that and I will show a regular play as it is happening.

Some people think that if the players don't do it on every play, they really are not doing there job and it's not worth the hassle. I have never seen in any game a player winning his battle on every play. You have to know and sense when you have the other team off balance. You've got to know where the hole is at ahead of time.

Yes, nothing is shown and under the rule system that we are govern by, it leads to a wide open style of play. So many holes are busted open because people are trying to counter the gaps or even stack. We want you to do things that are not balalnced because it works in our favor.

One last thing. For my O-Lines, I change them out. I've got 10 linemen that look just alike. They are interchangeable. The other 5 linemen are Proline bases that has power. But with the 35/45 second clock, it does not give them enough time to know where everyone is at.

The players are actually moving at a great rate of speed. The center of gravity for some of these players causes them to have greater momentum in various directions. So when a field is stopped, it is so sudden that players are trying to slow down and they fall. But when they are lined up opposite the other team, that does not happen. The only falling down happens is when coaches are screamin' after the hole part open like the Red Sea!

I did this video thing over on YouTube because of you. I saw that you were having problems going through the site. You can still go to FF.COM website/Media but now it will take you to Youtube video instead. Thanks for hipping me to that.

Try it now!
