Default Who Do You Want To Run Ef/mf With?

Who do you want to play EF/MF with? I often see posts on how to find or recruit new EF/MF coaches. In building a league, I have learned that bigger is not always better. I often see coaches trying to explain to potential recruits how the game works, how it has evolved, and that the men no longer vibrate uncontrollably, run in circles, then fall down. After talking until he is out of breath the veteran EF/MF coach usually get the same response...gut busting laughter from the persons he is trying to convince how far we have come. The vet usually gets angry and try even harder to proove his point. That is my reasoning for always saying that I only want to get down with true EF/MF Heads. I believe that in EF/MF there is an elite few who truly want to fellowship and promote the hobby to its highest level.

When recruiting coaches for a league, I believe in bringing back coaches who played as a kid, or new coaches who have a genuine interest in the game and, or hobby aspect. By doing things this way, you have a body of coaches who will be dedicated, work their craft to be the best coaches they can be, compete at the highest level, and most important of all show up to game days. When I say true EF/MF Heads, I'm not talking about recruiting guys who think the game looks interesting, or friends who hang just for the sake of pleasing a friend who plays, or the guy who loves football but is not willing to commit by learning the in's & outs of EF/MF. I think it is great to have a big league, but if there are only 8 of 20 coaches who consistently show up to game day, be on time, know the rules, tweak their teams, and actually play a competitive game, then why recruit or include these types of coaches in your league? Open Run is for true EF/MF Heads, or those who are interested in becoming so.

I agree Kotixblack, that's the main reason I have been playing solitaire 70% of the time the last few years since my return to the hobby. I have showed this game to hardcore football fanatics I work with and friends too , we have a blast, but when the day is over they have no desire to ask me when we are going to play again, no one asks me for more info, they had fun for a day being a kid again and that's it. I try to get them into the websites we all frequent, see the custom boards, their favorite teams, etc...but no go. Fair weather MF/EF players, that's all they are. I want to learn and grow around a group of guys that have or are willing to take the game to the next level, that's the only way to step up my game.

Default What I have found ........

Over the years I have talked with literally 100’s of guys over the phone and in person, …………………..I have found there are key signs to observe to getting a new person in the hobby or an old school guy BACK in the hobby.

Now, some of these you may think I’m full of crap, ………………but I have a lot of experience, and this is what I have found over the years;

Sign number one: look at his eyes, and see if you can observe his amazement! ………….the twinkle in his eyes, if you will.

#2. HOW he asks you questions, ……………if he waits for you to answer him, that is a good sign, …………….if he asks a question, …….and while you are answering, explaining to him, ………..he asks something else, he is not genuinely interested.

If he is one of those clowns who goes like this; “hey wow, look at this,………how do know who has the ball? How do you pass, ………..how do you make them go blah, blah blah. That dude is a waste of time, he is not interested

#3. Does he look at you when you are talking to him and when you are answering his question, ………………is he hearing what you are telling/showing him?

#4. This is KEY! Watch how he picks up a figure………………..I know you are laughing, but trust me on this,…………. First, he asks if he can see a figure, and after waiting to hear you give him permission,…………….he must pick up the figure by the base, ……….if he just gropes the figure with his fingers,…………..not a good sign, but if he picks up the figure by the base, ……..……… Bingo! You got one.

****key, ………….if you are established in your league, and this guy is a “ Panther” fan and he would love to be the panthers,……………then, ………..let him be that team and YOU pick another team, ……….it is something we have done for eight years in the Harrisburg BuzzBall League and has paid dividends…..

This is what I have found.

Default Rip,............. that was it my man, PERFECT, picking up the figure is Key

Me myself I'm blessed with coaches here in the GLEFL, I want to play with coaches who call me 7:30 in the morning asking me what I'm doing, I tell them I'm havin coffee, they ask you wanna hit, I love it when a coach comes over and we work out from 4:30 in the afternoon to 7:30 the next morning, I also love it when a coach calls me 3 oclock in the morning asking about a rule because he another coach are scrimmaging before our season starts, I love most of these cats here.

P.S. Now myself, before I started in the league, these cats knew I was someone who they wanted to play with, they knew I was a diehard, I had to wait a year before I could play in the GLEFL, I remember going to the playsite 1 hour before they would show up, I did this for 1 year every sunday, talk about asking questions, (WOW), and listening to every word,........ I use to get nervous and get goose bumps driving to watch these guys play, you ask who do you want to play with, I want to play with guys like myself, and I got them.

Default Coach Rip - great one

Rip,

I agree with you on those points and from the experience factor, you are dead on on points 1, 2, and 4. and for myself, I would give up a team that I was using in order to gain another MFer who want to join and use his favorite team.

I have done this so many times ..... One day I will play in a league that I can use my favorite team and someone else will move to a different team, but let me diegress

Sometime it's not about the quanity, it's about the quality - that's one of saying down here.... It means a lot when we put Miniature Football on the public display anywhere..

Default Agreed,

K-Lo,

Yes, when you go for quantity, ............it is nothing but headaches, which a league will end up with no shows, drama, etc., .........

I'd rather have four dedicated coaches, than 12 who are in it and not really committed, ...............the guys from the Beltsville area are very impressive as they travel everywhere to play.
