The Chris Robinson Style. The Man is a genius, How can I learn his style.
I have been not really doing that much EF stuff lately do to work, but i think about EF alot, (to much maybe  ) , I think about the true masters in our hobby, and there are many in different areas but one guy who impressed me as soon as I met him in 06 at the Brawl in beautiful Portsmouth VA was Chris Robinson, lately I have been tinkering around with figure design, molding, and other techniques. I can move around FF.com figures with ease now, I even have done some interesting figures combining different figures parts ( the Hybrids) but one guys style that I just cant seem to get down quite yet is Master Chris's style, I think the reason that I havent quite got it yet is because to me his style of figure creation is the most artistic, The abilty to take other figures and add more plastic gradually to add muscles, Pad shelf and other cool things Chris does is amazing. I was wondering has anyone learned( You can answer also Uncle Don LoL) or can kinda guide me through his style in form and technique. And hey Chris I will be looking for you this year in VA. Your Biggest Fan Biglock.

One and only...
I agree LOCK, Chris' work is second to none. In my humble opinion, I Chris were to make a mold of each position, ELECTRIC FOOTBALL wouldn't need any other figures--- ever. The're are that good. Detailed AND perfectly balanced.
Lock, glad to see you back on the Board, Brother!

I agree too Lockhart.
Talking with Chris 3 1/2 years ago really emboldened me to pursue decal making. Seeing the creativity of those who are "producers" really lends credibility to our hobby and elevates it above "gaming" which I feel is a big waste of time. Lock my man, I myself am thinking of throwing my hat into figure design. I will talk with you again soon. I hope you got my voice mail from a few days ago, so please respond via PM, email, or call me back. Last edited by Decal Master : 01-18-2007 at 12:11 PM. |

The thing about his stuff is proportions and body position. That is the key to a successful realistic pose. Arms are in proportion to body which are in proportion to hands etc etc... I love the figures that many companies make but the biggest glaring problem is in proportioning of body parts. Too large and they become cartoonish. If you want to get to his level study human form drawing books from the library. The "how to" kinds. They stress proportions and body positions. If you can learn that aspect, you will make figures that match Chris's.
My art teacher gave me a revelation in high school when she pointed out to me the true length of a human hand in comparison to the length of the fingers (my drawings all had stubby hands to this point) That was the turning point for me in my drawing and sculpting. Truly seeing and eliminating percieved notions. A drawing class will help you immensly with your sculpting skills!!
