Default How Long has Boiling Bases Been Around???

OK, my intention is not to start a thread about boiled vs non boiled, that has been done to death, although, I have seen the light, I like what I saw and I know what I gots to do, enough said on that.

Moving on, I was speaking to a dude who is 10-12 years older than me, putting him around 50-52, I mentioned MF to him and his eyes lit up. He of course said he played as a kid all the way through high school. He told me how they used to brush the prongs on denim Levi's and he had such a fun time playing in his youth. He then mentioned to me having to boil the bases to make them run better. I was stunned, he did not say any thing about a boiling recipe, just hot water and of course he said they did not know about tweaking with pliers, but they did know about boiling to make them run better. I then told him what we do for base tweaking today and he finally understood what his boiling did to the bases, remove the flash.

Again, I was stunned when he mentioned boiling, especially that far back in the day.

You guys may be aware of this from way back, but I was pretty astonished.

Default Boiling History

Allow me to stretch a bit; I would say that base boiling has been going on since the arrival of the Total Team Control base. I have been in the hobby for twenty nine years. That base has been around years before I started playing.
