Opening up the offensive game
Hey guys..
We're (Tornado Alley EFL) wanting to come up with some rules changes that will open up our offenses.. We play a hybrid of the NHFL rules.. and actually I'd say we're closer to buzzball rules,, and we'd rather be playing some 28-27 games rather than 7-3 etc.. We've opened some passing options to increase scoring... but not increase the time allowed for each game.. SO.. We're not really looking to turn to a game that involves a bunch of stops.. Suggestions? Thanks in Advance.. |

I'll give it a shot...
I don't know much about Buzzball or NHFL rules (or any rules for that matter) but how about trying:
Turning the CB to run with WR instead of wrestling at the line of scrimmage. Allow running the QB option. Try using the new TDQ (I hear it's accuracy is an improvement over the TTQB) along with pass simulation. Allow reverses/double reverses. Allow adjustment of receivers after the catch (if you don't already allow this). Re-evaluate tackling rules (what type of tackling is currently allowed). You guys may already use some of what's listed....or not but hopefully I've given some food for thought. |

onde thing that may help...
To clarify:
BuzzBall Rules do allow the QB option run, do allow reverses/double reverses. Bigger boards open up the game too. But one thing to think about, most leagues run number of plays, or some timed quarters. Because of time constraints we only run 8 play quarters in our college league but if guys are scoring two or three TD's in a game, .......................brake it down to scores per play, ................we are doing pretty good. WE also allow timeouts with extend each half quite a bit. So I think it depends on your length of game to put your scoring in perspective.

Not necessarily.. It just depends on how the game goes.. time of possession etc.. I've done stats on games that the # of plays has been unbalanced to the tune of.. 28 to 12.. |

The last couple of months I have been playing in Philadelphia under a rule set which has allowed for more scoring. Some of the differences between the NHFL and the NEFL are as follows:
1) You do not have to call run or pass before the play. This allows you to keep your options open. 2) There is no push rule. Again this allows you to run the play a little longer to see what develops before you have to commit to the run or pass. 3) There are punts. There are more returns which adds to the scoring. I enjoy playing under both rule sets. Joe G |
