The TDQ Quarterback: The Shootout v. The DFW League
My friend Kevin Boddie told me to bring this to the forefront as far as the TDQ Quarterback is concerned. While I am always quick to embrace new ideas and innovations in the game, I am not sure what the DFW League will do as far as Geno's TDQ Quarterback is concerned.
While I am just the messenger, I know guys who have spent 13 years defining and improving their skills with the Triple Threat QB and take great pride in making difficult throws with the QB, I can imagine when the voting regarding the new TDQ may meet with much resistance. Maybe not but I know many of the things that I have tried bringing into the league has always been met with great resistance so I expect no less on this QB. Now, they may surprise me? But if you are coming to the DFW League, be prepared to throw with the Triple Threat QB. Just knowing the guys the way I do, they will probably feel that if they can throw with the TTQB, you should be able to. That is a skill we all would have to master on an equal playing field. As far as the Shootout, that is a separate entity altogether. Unlike the DFW philosophy, my goal is to encourage all people to come to the Shootout. If some people felt that they could not compete in the past because they had psychological issues using the TTQB, you can use this TDQ if it gives you a comfort level. So come and use it. I just want to see you come and be a part of the event. The rules of the Shootout are governed by what is stated in the updated version. The updated version will have the TDQ as an apparatus that can be used. The only thing about the TDQ is that if you are going to use it, it can not be any taller than the TTQB and the arm can not be any longer than the TTQB. That is only fair to guys who are using the similar TTQB. In that aspect, it does not give one type of QB an advantage over the other. This will be measured at the Shootout. When...
is the league meeting on rules? What topics are there to cover? Do we have an outline as of yet? Just throwing out questions. I for one have not seen the TDQ and can't wait for mines to arrive but my vote is "Yes" for the TDQ. I'm sure many others may feel differently but if it will raise the quality of play and the level of competition then I'm all for it.

I of course am not a member of your league but I can speak from the perspective of someone who is using the TDQ and is an average passer at best.
My initial take on the TDQ after some practice time is it still requires the same skills that you developed with the TTQB however the start up time from picking it up to being proficient is less than with the TTQB. I at this point am no better of a passer then I was with the TTQB but I am already equal to what I was with the TTQB. Thus, I think the biggest gain from the TDQ will be with the new person we are trying to recruit as he can become more competitive faster. If you are a great passer you will still be a great passer. If you are a good passer you will continue to be good and maybe even better passer. If you are a bad passer you will become a good passer faster. I think the TDQ will bring up the strategy level of the game as reading defenses and defensive reactions will have to be better as passer rating begin to improve. The overall competition in a league will definetly improve so if you are "THE MAN"" in your league you may want to vote against the TDQ. (where is that sarcasm smiley when you need it)

So.. if your're lucky enough to have an old TTQB that is more pliable, more flexible.. less likely to break like the new ones.. You may wanna vote against the new TDQ.. Cuz your opponents now will have a product available to them that will allow them the same advantage your TTQB produced with the "right plastic" gives you. Thing is... everyone can get a TDQ.. and a TTQB produced with a nice pliable plastic??? a crap shoot that hasn't hit the target in .. how many years? I'm not saying there aren't MFer's out there who haven't mastered the current crop of TTQB's.. but.. the TDQ evens up the talent... The bottom line is this.. for every league.. for every tournament There is only one reason to disallow the TDQ.. Fear that your advantage in the passing game will diminish..

Hall Of Famers In Heaven Forbid!!!!!!!!!
PEOPLE WOULD HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY REAL DEFENSES IF EVERYBODY ALLOWED THE TDQ!!! OH MY GOSH, THE 11-MAN ON THE LOS DEFENSE MIGHT TURN INTO SOMETHING RECOGNIZABLE!!!

What Is The Big Deal/difference
D.F.W.
Don't even come at geno that way. GENO, who drives a zillion miles to support the shootout should get the same respect here. How can it be met with resistance when half the league don't own one and have not tried it out. It's the same size and the same makeup as the TTQB. You hold it the exact same way andddd, you still have to make the throw. This is an issue that that should not be discussed at all. The guy(geno) went out on a limb and created something when everyone complained that the TTQB'S were cheap and there leg's keep breaking. "YOU STILL HAVE TO PRACTICE THROWING WITH THE TDQ". Instead of the entire body going back, just the arm goes back and makes the throw. When a coach does something innovative to enhance the hobby, why do some scratch their heads instead of embracing it. (THIS IS NOT JUST FOR THE DFW) THIS LOVEFEST WITH THE TTQB HAS GOT TO STOP. THIS HOBBY WOULD BE FURTHER ALONG EVEN MORE IF MORE PEOPLE GOT OFF THERE ********** AND CONTRIBUTED SOMETHING INSTEAD OF SHOWING UP WITH THERE TEAM ASKING, "WHO I PLAY TODAY. MORE COACHES NEED TO BREAK THERE ********** LIKE JIMBO, WEIRDWOLF, ETC ETC DIGGING AND GRINDING LOOKING AT THE NEXT LEVEL. B. OBAMA

My sentiments exactly
'Dre,
Don't get me wrong. I have no problems with the QB. I just know that everything that I have tried to implement in the league from the 4.0 system, FF.COM players, audibles, multiple players for a position, shaking the box, the stadium to league logos have met with nonsense resistance! The funny thing is all of these innovations enhanced the league and now, no one remembers any of that being a problem! Now because it is Geno, maybe it will not and I hope so. But I know that many times, what I bring to the league is that guinea pig thing of "If Reg loses with it, its okay to have it". But maybe, because it is something that we are trying to implement for Geno, it will be okay but if it's something that I brought to the league, trust me, it probably would not be okay. You got to think about it. The alternate logo (DFW) I just brought to the league which was indicative of the Dallas-Fort Worth area had resistance which only I could see the root cause. Many guys loved the logo but some thought it favored my team, the Cowboys. So just maybe, if this does not concern Reg, it may be okay. Just my two cents... Another Thing
What 2 qb's do you know have the same exact arm
1) marino vs montana 2) elway vs p. manning 3)jim kelly vs aikman ALL QUITE DIFFERENT, BOTTOM LINE IS THE BALL HAS TO FLY DOWN FIELD SOMEHOW. Montana can't make half the throws Marino could. Marino can't run a 2 minute offense like Montana can ( TDQ VS TTQB) !!!!!!!!!!!! B. OBAMA

If our league is having a vote
I will vote yes on allowing it, hey,..........we have all kinds of different things allowed that are not allowed in other leagues, why not accept it ?
P.S. Ok,.....my fees will be in soon, I will speak more then (smile). Norbert Revels

Reginald Rutledge Shootout Founder[/quote] The only comments I have are regarding the heigth of the TTQB vs TDQ. This needs to measured in the manner of "REACH". Yes when standing flat footed if you will, the TDQ's arm is higher...but...it is at the hightest point of reach. When you tilt the TTQB the arm rises higher providing it with the highest point of reach. When you measure both QB's at the highest opoint of reach there are indentical. I did this not by accident but by design. Geno H |
