Newbie with Questions
I have been out of the hobby for a while and have a few questions.
1. Are there now different sizes of men and fields, I ask because I keep hearing about the 67 big men? 2. where is the most trustworthy place to order prepainted NFL teams and College teams. 3. Where is the best place to order buy stadiums. Custom made and what is the difference between a "380" field and a "620" field are they different sizes? 4. If I have been reading right some leagues use dice to decide passes other actually use the quarterback, which always seemed very difficult to me when I was younger. 5. Is there a reliable place to buy custom made players? 6. does everyone use the bases these days with the little dial? Sorry for so many questions, but there seems to be a lot going on these days in Electronic football. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for any help! |

1. Are there now different sizes of men and fields, I ask because I keep hearing about the 67 big men?
There are a number of sizes but they all work together on one field. -Original Tudor and Miggle men are the smallest scaled figures -67 Bigmen were created in 1967 and recreated by Buzzball and Miggle in recent years. They are very close to the same size of each other but bigger than the original Tudor and Miggle men. -FootballFigure.net has the largest scale but still close enough to the others to intermix them all. Reggie will give you more details on the sizes when you talk. 2. Where is the most trustworthy place to order prepainted NFL teams and College teams. I'll let someone else answer this in more detail but there are many customizers who make these. Check around the site and ask alot of questions. The only college licensed products come from Miggle. There are no licensed NFL teams available other than old Miggle and Tudor teams. 3. Where is the best place to order buy stadiums. Reg (footballfigure.net) is the only one I know that sells custom stadiums but there may be others that I do not know about. What is the difference between a "380" field and a "620" field are they different sizes? Yes. A 620 is made by Miggle and originally by Tudor and is not as wide as a 308. A 308 is made by Footballfigure.net and has a fiberboard rather than metal field. 4. If I have been reading right some leagues use dice to decide passes other actually use the quarterback, which always seemed very difficult to me when I was younger. Yes dice are used in Texas Shootout Rules but not for passing. The dice determine injuries, penalties etc. Most leagues use the QB and the new TDQ in varied ways (sticks, targets and more) to complete their passes. There may be some that use dice but I am not aware of anyone on here who does that. 5. Is there a reliable place to buy custom made players? I have had good luck with just about everyone who posts in the trading forum but as always, it is a buyer beware environment and make sure you do your research. 6. Does everyone use the bases these days with the little dial? Yes. These are critical to most game plans. Sorry for so many questions, but there seems to be a lot going on these days in Electronic (Electric or Miniature) football. I am sure that my answers have only created more questions but keep asking and if at all possible get together with some one in your area. Much of this has a simple answer in speech and a long answer in type. There are alot of guys in the Columbus area who would be glad to help you get up to speed.

Weirdwolf,
Thanks for all the feedback. Since there are some different sized playing pieces does the larger players have an unfair advantage against the smaller scale pieces? Do most of the customizers use the larger scale pieces? Thanks |

Since there are some different sized playing pieces does the larger players have an unfair advantage against the smaller scale pieces?
Not always. Many times, for instance, a tall offensive lineman will be bested by a smaller defensive lineman because the smaller people will get up under the taller figure and actually lift the front prongs off the field thus pushing the larger figure backwards. Before I learned this, I had a 67 Bigman line on my Super Sumos and any time they faced off against smaller figure defensive lines or worse yet the arm forward Buzzball linemen, the smaller figures would get under and push away no matter how strong my bases were. That is just one example. Balance and size are all important and require trial and error to find the best figure (small or large) for a given position. Another example is smaller recievers can get through some traffic whereas larger recievers might not get hung up but give you a bigger target to hit on the pass. Do most of the customizers use the larger scale pieces? No, they pick and choose based on the original position of the figure and the end result looked for or the position they are building. I made my all time Chiefs team from all the manufacturers figures. Dante Hall 5'8" in real life was made from a Miggle figure RB and Buck Buchanon, Willie lanier and Bobby Bell, who were big dudes in real life, were made from footballfigure.net figures. Buzzball and other customs made up the intermediate size players.

Hi There,
Greetings to you my friend. My name is John but I am better known on the chatboard as Coach J. This is your first post so let me say welcome to the MFCA chatboard. You have come to a good place to get your miniature football questions answered. Weirdwolf and Reg have pretty much answered your questions. I noticed that you live in Columbus, Ohio. There are a number of coaches in the hobby who live in Ohio and one who lives in Columbus. You may want to contact a coach who goes by the name 5-13 studios on the chatboard because I think he lives in Columbus. I always think it is a good idea for a new coach to try and find a coach in his area to act as a mentor during his early stages in the hobby. Have a good day, feel free to ask any additional questions, and again welcome to the MFCA chatboard. John aka Coach J |
