WHAT ARE THE A GAPS AND B GAPS?
I have my 2 young cousins coming over today to play some EF. They both play pop warner football so they will have some of idea of this when i explain it to them. but i want to make sure i explain it to them right. so to clarify what i think i already know, can someone explain
the gaps and the responsibilities of the defensive player in the different schemes? also, the 5 technique and so on....? thanks fellas for the help, scott

Gaps
Generally refer to the space between offensive linemen
The space between the center and guard is the A gap The space between the guard and tackle B Gap The space between the tackle and tight end is the C gap Defensive schemes assign gap control responsibilities - areas for a specific player to control. That chart you put is a little off If you are head up it will be a even number All odd numbers are inside or outside. 9 6 7.....5 4.........3 2 1............0.......1 2 3.........4 5.........7 6 9 TE..........T.......... G..............C..........G...........T........... ...TE D Gap C B A A B C D Inside of the tackle is called a under 4 or 4 under tech. For the LBers since they are off the line they would be called a 44 tech.'or maybe a 55 tech. Which mends they are line up in a 5 tech but off the line. here is what i have used
i think bear bryant or daryl royall developed this.
0 ...head up on center 0 strong ...shade center to strength call 0 weak....shade center away from strong side 1.....inside shade on guard 2..... head up on guard 3 ....outside shade on guard 4I....inside shade on tackle 4...head up on tackle 5....outside shade on tackle 7..inside shade on te 6 ...head up on te 9...outside shade on te 8....no shade on te, inside foot wider than te's outside foot. normal gap responsibility rule is: head up or inside shade on your man you have inside gap.......outside shade, you have outside gap of your man...... but now after we have gotten so technical.......a gap is between center and guard....b gap is between guard and tackle......c gap is between tackle and te....and d gap is between te and a wing..........hahaha Last edited by capanther : 12-12-2008 at 05:21 PM. |
