texas vs. OSU
i scrimmaged my 67 miggle BM Longhorns and Buckeyes today, the horns sported orange ttc and rookie bases, the buckeyes sported Gray F5's and gray speeddiamonds. in 5 offensive plays, vince young carried twice for -1 yd, Earl Cambell carried 3 times for net 7 yards. it seems to me the gray bases are out performing the orange ones. i did do a quick tweak on the gray bases, and not the orange ones, i just liked the look of all gray bases made by 2 different companies.

I can't imagine playing with untweaked bases anymore.

im somewhat of a traditionalist, but these are teams in my solitaire college bowl league, and going through my base box(which is massive) i found the gray rookie speeddiamonds and the gray F5's, so i thought they would look cool on a team. all 3 of my "real" teams have tweaked bases, ive gotten tweaks from all of the old school tweakers, and a few new experts. in my solitaire games i usually only flash/sand each base and each base gets no more than 2 squeezes with the tweak pliers, that way it stays even and i can find potential bases for my 3 league/competion teams.
i still find joy in playing scrimmages with the 22 super UNtweaked bases i took 5 weekends in building back in 2000. these are the top ttc's , widetops, and original rookie and RL bases i had as a kid. they actually hold up well to tweaked teams. i won two seasons going undefeated without tweaked bases, but then all the league members got their tweak on so i had to get me a few. |
