Hi There,

My name is John but I am better known as Coach_J on the chatboard. To begin with welcome to the hobby and the chatboard. You have come to a good place to get your electric football questions answered.

As Erick mentioned Green Bay Glenn is a good person to contact. I will try to contact Green Bay Glenn or someone in the Houston and ask them to contact you.

Have a good day, feel free to ask any additional questions, and again welcome to the hobby and the chatboard.

John aka Coach_J

I'll just repeat the information we had in our phone call here. The past two years I attempted to revive the HEFL but both times, we had coaches show up on opening day and that was it! A one-game season! LOL! I need a tad more commitment than that before I'll run a league again.

I'm open for one on one scrimmages and such and will focus on re-entering the NHFL this year with my Baton Rouge Swamp Moose, but the chances of running a league in Houston are slim as far as the original coaching crew is concerned. I have no doubt Derrick Leffall will show up and commit to play, but I need more than that. You may be the trump card because with 3 coaches committed, all we really need is a fourth coach to commit since there are several leagues around the country with just 4 coaches or so, I believe. Could be wrong though!

I'll see if some of my high school football players are interested, and if they are, I may run a league this fall. I'll keep you posted. But I really DON'T want another one-game opening-day-only HEFL! LOL!

Default I am always down to play but.....

....the 10 minutes to set-up a play has got to go. There are guys in Houston who want to play, but they haven't got together yet. I for one am willing to get something going here in Houston but like I said the set-up time has to be moved closer to real-time football. I am accustomed to setting up quick and playing real-time football. Coming from the LAEFL has I guessed spoiled me in that since. Mark Robin and Mark Klingbeil have also tried to get something going but have failed. I am always down for it. I will be playing in the DWFEFL this year because of H-Town being down again.

Default update to correct misinfo on Houston

I'd be better off in the Dallas league my own self! LOL! Too bad it's a four-plus hour drive. Have fun in Big D!

FYI, rjackson, coming from the outside you wouldn't know this, but you've been handed some serious misinformation about the HEFL, and probably from one of our former coaches who has not showed up to play at all the past couple of seasons. We use digital timers to set up plays and you only have two minutes as per our last 2 seasons in the HEFL. There is no 10 minutes to set up a play so you've been fed a bowl full of stuff on that one. Sorry you had to gulp that down! LOL! Bet it didn't taste good at all!

Glenn,
Good to hear you are using the timers, I am not in love with them, but sometimes they are necessary.

Listen, I never meant to denegrade the league, heck it is without a doubt the most enjoyable league I have ever played in. Understand RJ was coming from the LA league with is incredibly competitive and under strict timing rules. I was warning him that this league (HEFL) was much more about companionship and fun. I didn't care if it took you forever to set up a play, or if you turned on the board after an incompletion to see what happened...it was all part of the fun of playing in the HEFL...no pressure, just fun! However, it would be a big adjustment to RJ if he had to play that way, that is all I said.

Since then I have tried a few times to get the guys together to play, each time with no luck. Marky and I, and I think you as well, were the ONLY coaches to come every time we had a meeting the one season we played. We attempted to play a second season, with Bill Porsche, and we held it at my house, but few showed up and I think Bill, you, Marky, and I were the only ones of the few people who showed up to actually play a game.

Listen, it didn't last, but I will always treasure the memories of playing in the HEFL! I really wished we could have played more seasons, Marky and I loved all the crazy characters in the league and just had a ton of fun!!!

Take care, and please don't take offense...
Mark

Hey, I didn't know WHO made the comment until now! Mark Klingbeil, of all people! LOL! Good post to cover your backside though! Thanks. The season you referred to was the one before we set up the timers ruling. Of course not one, but two back-to-back ONE-GAME only seasons popped my balloon, let the wind out of my sails, caused me to PUNT even on first down, etc. so I let the HEFL go........but....

That WAS the best thing about the Houston EFL--We let just about anything go and the FOOD and the FUN were the best things about the league. I sure do miss those instant heart-attack 50-lb Mega Meat burgers of Jeff Henry!!!!

I know Derrick will play. Seems like Cedric would commit. If you're in, that makes 4 of us for sure which is enough to start. Well, 5, actually, but we will need a sixth coach. It would be better with six, of course, but there may be a ray of lighting breaking through here.

I'll keep my eye on the posting. This might actually become a "hot" thread! LOL!
