Reg, I have found out that the road warriors seem to be more committed than local coaches , not sure why though.

Road warriors vs. Local...
Good debate folks and let me add something to it from both sides of the coin...
Road warriors level of commitment is truely greater because of all the things that go into being part of that league. Cost - not so much league dues, but the cost of travel, hotel stay if you stay more than a day. Time costs also. Time off from work may be part of the equation if you expanded the window of time you would spend at a remote (non local) location. In order to be a league member in good standings, that is the first hurdle you cross in order to play. If I choose to join your league, after the approval process, I am there for 3 reasons - not in any order - Freindship, Football, and to try and win the league title Local coach sometimes feel like they are "less than" vs. THE-OUT-OF-TOWNERS that come to play. Then they start to waver when the loss count begins to increase. Local coaches want you to "cort them" just like you do for the OOT coaches. Local coaches want to be granted some leeway where the OOT coach would not dare to ask for that because it's hard for everyone. |

I've been blessed to have...
coaches wanting to come to Texas and be apart of what I do. I think K-Lo hit on something very true - the courtship.
Local coaches want you to court them just like Road Warriors. Sometime we forget, this is basically recruiting. You've got to recruit the local ones as well as the players which are from other parts of the country. The problem with the local recruits is that they come with stipulations that you might not be feeling, i.e., "I will not play if you don't let my buddy play". That buddy may be the reason that league disenigrated in the first place! Some guys are worth courting because you know the level of dedication they provide. They are your worker-bees. Every league needs those. I would like to establish a league with a combination of locals and Road Warriors but I know from experience, it causes problems when you do not extend invitations to everyone. When some of those guys are quitters, you rather really not even have a league at that point. Reg |

Something one needs to be cognizant of and I speak with relation to myself is NOT to overextend oneself with respect to your work/personal situation and obligations and EF.
I bit off more than I can chew recently and learned my lesson with a nights/weekend job not being conducive to weekend EF meets. As you know Dallcow, I said I was done to take care of my personal stuff, however, came to play you Sat and had a great time. I stand ready to complete the 2 final DSMFL college games although even if I win them, I will not be in in a bowl because I committed. I would show up just for the camaraderie and FUN. I will do my best to complete the Carolina games as well, BECAUSE (1) I made a commitment and (2) I think I'm addicted to this darn game Folks need to know what they are capable of doing and NOT doing as much as we would ALL like to just play. I have learned that the hard way. I sure some others fall into this trap as well and of some just don't care...not for me to judge. I am also of the mindset you should never fall off the "grid" and communication with league mates is essential. My 2 cents for what it's worth...

Good debate guys...
Joeram, I appreciate you sticking with this season the way you have and that you DID show up last weekend, when I know you were tired from work. You are addicted and dedicated. As tired as you were, you still took my Trojans to the wire!

I don't know about that road warrior stuff. We got burned pretty good on that last pro season, and I seem to be in the process of screwing up the carolina league all by myself.I'm sorry Joel just bare with me if you can.

Sometimes
guys have things going on in their personal lives where they may not be able to finish off what they started. Speaking for myself, for the past 2-3 months, I have done more traveling than I ever have. Trying to juggle the job, school (in pursuit of my masters), and other issues have become quite hard to manage. We all love this game, heck but sometimes you have to put whats most important first before all others.
Just my 2 cents. Leonard

Agree
Yep, I'm going to have to "slow" down a bit myself to take care of things in my life as well...like I said, learned my lesson, bit off more than I can chew. There is so much going on in our "tri-state" area it was hard for me to say no...
EF is just such a great get away for me, however, can't let other areas suffer...

Afraid
Being a "Quitter" is what i am afraid of the most when joining a league.
I am FINALLY playing in the BAM this season for the first time. The BAM members have done their part i guess in trying to recruit me and court me, here and there. Perhaps if they bought me some flowers and took me out to a dinner and movie, i would have joined a long time ago. But the emails and PM's and that one night at the convention when i woke with 2 ...er, never mind, ...... were just fine . Okay, enuff of the cornball jokes (i am in a good mood, coffee flowing through the veins ) What i am saying is that i have declined to join the BAM the last few seasons because i felt my schedule in life could not handle more MF related time. I put some time aside to engage in many aspects of the hobby, and didnt feel like league preparation and league play could fit. What i did not want to do is let anyone down by not being able to make it or not having a half way competitive team to make our time worthwhile, win or lose. Instead, i observed from afar, practiced on my time at my pace/leisure, and now, 2 years or so later, i feel i am READY to make my committment to my league mates. In being afraid of being a "quitter" to my friends, i had to be sure i was able to be 100% down for them. Now i say........................ Watch for the Thunder!!!!
