Default Computer software for keeping track of the game

Sitting here thinking of things that would be neat to have in EF. We all have computers are we wouldn't be on here, and most of us have laptops or the new super cheap netbooks. I was thinking it would be neat to have a program that would make keeping stats easier.

Something like this:

Enter Home team:
Enter Visitor:
Winner of Toss:
Play #1: Line of scrimmage. ( ) R or P If R, ball carrier, yds gained (enter positive or negative number) Tackler
Play #2: Line of scrimmage. ( ) This value would be automatic depending on the results of play #1.

In other words it would not be a spread sheet, but it would be a series of questions that you would type in answers to. When the game is over, you could print out a sheet that has every play result on it, rushing stats, passing stats, etc. What do you guys think? Is there someone out there who can do this??? Doug

Default Game Tracker

I came up with this a couple years ago to keep track of game stats and help with solitaire or practice play.

It works out of a spreadsheet in Excel...

Sheet 1 is the play caller, auto kicker, and fumble/penalty generator.

Sheet 3 contains the stat tracker and game summary. Instructions for the stat tracker begin on Sheet 3.

I have zipped the file for easy download.

Let me know if you run into any bugs...

Talking Help with Play Caller

If the play caller sheet isn't working, it probably is because an excel function needs to be added called randbetween which generates random numbers.

If this function is not available, try either of the following:

1) Go to Tools, select Add-ins. In the dialog box check the Analysis Tool Pack. Try hitting F9 again. It should get it started. If not, try closing the file and then reopen.

2) If you don't see the Analysis Tool Pack then run the Setup program to install the Analysis ToolPak. After you install the Analysis ToolPak, you must enable it by using the Add-Ins command on the Tools menu.

Default Play Calling Sheet

Roller

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this sheet. I tried it yesterday during a solitaire game between the Titans and Colts. The stats sheet worked well as did the play calling sheet. It made the game go a lot faster. Is there a way to add additional plays to the chart? I'm trying to make separate call sheets to simulate play calling schemes for each team.

Can this program keep track of two teams...or do you have to open two spreadsheets to track two teams? I will give it a whirl and would like to use it for stat keeping on game days...but I don't know that it would be much of an improvement over pencil and paper, except for the fact the tabulations are automated! Neat tool there.....

Talking Cool...

Philly,

I can modify the plays to anything you want. We just need to update the list in the cell that holds the choices... Send me your formations and play calls and we can "pimp your software"

FinFan,

It keeps track of both teams at the same time. If you enter the play result it will automatically update and keep track of the two teams. For instance, if you input that your qb was sacked for a three yard loss by "defender X". The stats area will record -3 yards rushing by your qb, an attempt and figure the average gain per player and team; a sack for the defender, a tackle for a loss and it will record the yardage lost.

That would be great. My solitaire league consists of 32 modern teams in the NFL. I'm trying to have the amity for each team to have their own play calling/formations based on real tendencies. Like the best team in the NFL Philly Eagles pass 65% of the time whereas the Giants run most of the time. I want to be able to incorporate this using your spreadsheet.

Not a problem...

The playcaller I can develop will be put into a new spreadsheet so when you play you will need the Stat Tracker file open as well as the Play Caller file.

The Play Caller file will have 32 sheets each named for the specific team it represents. For instance the Eagles will have their playbook and playcalling tendencies on their own sheet within this file. They can also have penalties called based on their real life statistical likeliness to be flagged for an infraction.

So, for instance, the Cleveland Browns or the Oakland Raiders would have a much higher frequency for penalties than say the Saints or the Colts. The Vikings might have a higher tendency to fumble and the Steelers might blitz at higher rate.

I will need a list of your formations and play calls for each team. I will also need a list of your pass to run ratios, penalty tendencies, and any other team attributes you would like incorporated for each team.

This could be a really fun project!

Thanks,
DR

If you had some of those team sheets for the board game, Paydirt, then you could use those to shape the tendencies. Last I knew, someone on line was creating new sets of sheets for download every year since Avalon Hill is out of business and no longer marketing the game. He also had old sheets. There was even a computer version of the game available.
