Default The 2010 WMLMFplayoffs and championship

#1 seed Canadian Sasquatch vs. #4 Munich Third Reich

Sasquatch: They are the defending champs and know how to win when it matters most. They feature 2 of the top 10 rushers in the league in Grog and Muckman, Their QB, Stinkwater, is the leagues highest rated passer, with a 111.3 rating and threw a league low 4 interceptions for the year. They have a pair of unheralded receivers in Theodore and Badgas. Tipper, the tight end, is a great blocker who helps open the holes for the running game. Defensively, they rely on a strong line and deceptively fast linebackers and secondary. Chappy and Thinker each recorded 3 interceptions on the year, Tank and Bubbles had 2 sacks apiece. On special teams, Muckman averaged 27.8 yards per return, Grog 21.5

Third Reich: Munich is led by their QB, Wilhelm ‘Colonel’ Klink, who led the league in passing with 1518 yards. They also feature the 2010 WMLMF offensive player of the year Sven Wagner, who ran for 472 yards and 7 TD’s and caught 10 passes for 207 yards and 4 TD’s. Willie Wolf was second in the league in receptions, with 505 yards and a pair of TD’s. The Reich defense is anchored by Albert Burkhalter and Joseph Herrmann in the middle. Manfred Mann tied for second in the league in interceptions with 4. Richard Meier averaged 27.5 yards per kick return and Wagner 32.0.

The Canadians lead the series 3-0. Neither team seemed to have much enthusiasm in last weeks game, perhaps because they had already clinched playoff spots. I have a feeling that Munich was holding back, not showing everything that they had. I also have a feeling it won’t matter. The Sasquatch play their best this time of year and have the Reich’s number. Sasquatch 35 Third Reich 13

#2 seed Midwest Mennonites vs. #3 Battlin’ Bozos of Battle Creek

Mennonites: The ’Nites have struggled this year offensively. Luthar Lamp and Speedy Ezekiel finished 10th and 13th in the league rushing, but Ezekiel was 4th in reception yards with 380 yards. They have the leagues top tight end, ’Stone Cold’ Steve Austin who finished with 336 yards receiving and a pair of TD’s. Bud Weisser had 3 interceptions from his strong safety position, while Abraham John ended up 5th in tackles with 31. Speedy and Lamp combined to average 32 yards per kick return.

Battlin’ Bozos: The clowns were the top offensive team in the league, running for 1820 yards and passing for 1132. They also had 2 runners in the top ten with 2 Cents and More Or Less, who led the league with an incredible 16.2 yards per carry average. Pi was tied for the lead in TD throws with 13, and was 3rd in passer ratings with 101.6. FM and Dice Six each had 3 sacks, One Eleven and Left U-Turn tied at 11th in the league with 29 ½ tackles. More Or Less had their lone TD on a kick return.

The Bozos lead the series 2-1 The Mennonites played one of their best games of the season last week. Will they be able to continue? They have shown moments of brilliance, as well as moments of collapse. The Bozos have been uncharacteristically consistent this year. Clowns will be running rampant. Bozos 31 Mennonites 21

The playoff games are finished and the winners will face off for the WMLMF championship this week. Here's the results......

Amish Get Medieval On Clowns

The Mennonites played nearly perfect football, running for 194 yards, passing for 210 more, and getting 3 interceptions and 3 sacks on defense, as they completely dominated the Battlin’ Bozos 35-24 to earn a berth in the WMLMF championship game.

One Eleven stripped Speedy Ezekiel of the ball on the Mennonites first play of the game, giving Battle Creek great field position at the Mennonite 20. Pisces caught a Pi pass to give the clowns a quick 7-0 lead. It was all Amish after that. Billy Bob Weisser found Ezekiel on a 22 yard TD pass, then on their next possession hit Mudder Smucker on a 58 yard bomb for a 14-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Bernie trimmed the lead to 14-10 with a 44 yard field goal, but Weisser’s 5 yard TD scamper made it 21-10 at the half.

2 Cents returned the second half kick 73 yards and scored on a 10 yard Pi pass to bring the Bozos within 4, 21-17. Their momentum didn’t last very long, as Luthar Lamp shocked Battle Creek with a dazzling 79 yard run on the next play and a 28-17 lead. Smucker caught another Weisser pass to push the lead up to 35-17 going into the final quarter. The two teams battled back and forth until it was evident that there wasn’t enough time left for a Bozo comeback. In a touch of class, Bozo coach Slappy O’Flaherty put in little used ! for the final few plays. ! responded by scoring the final points of the game on a 20 yard run. Lamp finished with 86 yards on the ground on 7 carries and a TD. More Or Less had 61 rushing yards and 93 receiving yards for the Bozos. One Eleven was tops for the clowns on defense with 5 tackles while Samuel Smucker had 4 tackles, a sack and an interception for the ‘Nites.

Minus Six recovers Speedy's fumble on the first play of the game

Pisces catches a TD pass in early 1st quarter action

Abraham John (Genesis 4.8) intercepts a pass at the 1 yard line

Fourth Time’s A Charm For Third Reich

Willie Wolf caught a 2 point conversion pass in overtime to give Munich a stunning 28-27 victory over the defending champion Canadian Sasquatch. The Third Reich defense stymied the bigger Sasquatch offense, limiting their stars, Muckman and Grog to just 99 yards on 20 carries. Stinkwater threw for 122 yards on 8-16-0 passing and a pair of TD’s, but struggled in the red zone, where the ‘Quatch scored only 6 points in 4 trips. It was Munich’s first victory over the Sasquatch after 3 previous defeats.

Munich struck first on it’s first possession when Wilhelm Klink hit Wilfried Hofmann on a 9 yard screen pass for a 7-0 lead. Canada came back, but it’s drive stalled on the Reich 8 yard line and they had to settle for a Bunyons field goal. Klink snuck in from 5 yards out on their next drive for a 14-3 lead. Bunyons and Franz Schultz traded field goals while Muckman ran for a 10 yard TD and the score stood at 17-13 Third Reich at the half. After a scoreless 3rd quarter, Stinkwater hit Muckman on a 5 yard pass and a 20-17 lead. The Germans came back, and Schultz’ 2nd field goal tied the game at the end of regulation.

Munich won the toss for overtime and elected to go 2nd. The Sasquatch took the ball at the 35 and on the 3rd play, Stinkwater found Muckman on a 20 yard pass and it was 27-20 Sasquatch. Munich then took their turn, and Klink hit Richard Meier, who was wide open in the middle of the end zone for a TD. Having to go for the 2 point conversion, Klink then tossed a pass into the corner of the end zone where Wolf came up with the biggest catch of his career and put the Third Reich into the championship game for the first time in team history. Klink finished with 217 yards on 11-17-1 passing and 2 TD’s, Too Tall led the Sasquatch defense with 3 ½ tackles and a sack. Albert Kohler had 6 tackles and Derrick Danker had a sack for Munich.
