Some love the game just as a hobby nothing more, then there those that seek to elevate the game, how its played & embrace competition as a means of boosting the games overall appeal. Both can coexist together, just because others choose to put more time & money into what there doing does not mean that its going to ruin us. To the contrary the innovators are the ones driving advancement in the hobby, just like everything else money will always be a major factor in what kind of car u drive, unless u biuld your own, then time is what awaits u. no way around this fellas, I would like for someone to send me some tweaked bases for free but time is real, unless your so called "set" there is no one that has time to do anything for free just a fact. Compensation is what makes it possible for us to do what we do, without that no figs, boards, bases & other innovations, that take investment & "TIME" to get started & maintained would be possible. Be careful when criticizing what u yourself for what ever reason are not prepared to undertake yourself, youll be surprised at what costs are truly involved!
I recently had a discussion similar to this analogy a couple of days ago. Many people have asked me to tweak bases for them and my reluctance to do so derived from knowing the time committment for bringing a top notch, long lasting, product to a person who understands the value of your efforts. It's similar to you doing all this hard work on those awesome figures, or Chris bending over backwards to insure you are satisfied with what you get in return.

Simply stated, I could not provide that type of product to everyone if I wanted to. So all that is left is what we have. Stock products that are put onto television, at least in most cases, for relating to some frustrating moment in life. It just seems to not stray very far from that perception.

Excellent point Bruce!

I will leave this post alone because I'm about to take a left turn and my thoughts will take this post down a dark road.

Sometimes, u have to travel in the dark to get where your going Mozeek, I only speak from experiences, others may be different than mine, all points of view must atleast be heard. It would be nice to have things the way we feel they should be, unfortunately 9 out 10 says thats not the case, real understanding is what Im looking for, not the what u got in yo box mentality. Costs are not the issue peoples perceptions may be, I HEAR NO ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW MUCH TIME PEOPLE SPEND, ONLY MONEY, FOR ME ITS ONE IN THE SAME. National, Greco & countless others go around the country kickin tail with a "STOCK TEAM"Many prefer a "STOCK TEAM" u dont have to go the $$$$ route, costs has not & never will be the issue, Im convinced of that! My issue is with the perception. where does that come from? only a handful of guys even play with custom teams, well painted stock poses are the norm, BB, FF.net, Haiti, 67 Big, a fact most overlook when speaking on this. We already have Miggle, what do people expect to improve out the box & at what costs. NO ONE is going to market a 4' board with perfect running bases, in a hobby with 1500 people in it nation wide, then do it for $100 bucks. So it goes back to preferences, nothing more, costs are a choice not a demand, never was an issue, isnt now, we may want to look at the perceptions a little bit closer fellas, where does that come from?

Default Performance and Pride

I agree the time factor is a huge obstacle and really need an understanding better half.

Performance, not the look of players or custom team is certainly a stumbling block. Guys don't want to show up and get blown out or look "stupid".

Pride is a huge stumbling block in many things in our lives. Understanding and being able to handle that it is ok to stumble on your journey in the hobby is huge.

Perfect example, I got back into the hobby joining the CNYEFL 4 years ago after like 30 years away from the game. Painted up my team, did the decals, tweaked as well as I could...then went to the first play day and WON my opening game - but then proceeded to go 4-9 on the season .

I was fortunate to be playing and hanging with great guys - especially JWoopie (John Wharton) who shared a lot of insight in the style of play. Also the play days were simply FUN and that kept me tweaking, studying and playing. The BAM and guys like Morgan, Wally, Joe, Karim ...have made this experience great as well.

-It has to be enjoyable - I coach "real" sports and that is pressure enough - this is my hobby and I enjoy all aspects of it - painting, tweaking, playing, videos, etc...the goal of having FUN regardless is huge and making the play days and events fun is the master key!

Default In Raiderman's League

This is for you Ken Allen............

In Raiderman's League he has painted up many of the NFL teams and he has also painted many college teams. Any new coach that comes into the League to play they are more than welcome to borrow a team for the season. In fact if you tell Raiderman enough in advance he'll paint you whatever team you want as long as it's not already in his collection. Then the coach can use Raiderman's team and if at the end of the season the coach wants to buy the team they can. If not they give it back. Some coaches buy the teams others borrow a new one every year and some just don't come back. But it's a great way to reach out to others who want to play and all it costs them is a $25 league fee to check out the game for (8) weeks. That works well but you need a committed commissioner like that of THE RAIDERMAN!!

From none other than,
RAIDERMAN

Alan Deveran Jones, Tony Paul Jones, and I were doing this in the DEFL. We wound up getting Erick, The late Keith, and Brian Thompson, Jerry Henderson, then Tim Jackson to playing the game that way. It is indeed an excellent tool for recruitment. Kudos to you RD!
