The Texas Shootout will have a solitaire division:Help steer this...
Coaches,
How would you create a solitaire division of the Shootout? I am looking for your help on this. There are hundreds of solitaire players out there who would like to be able to get out and be a part of the football community. I am looking for suggestions on what we can do to bring solitairians together on the big stage to play in a solitaire championship setting. The rules do not have to be Shootout rules because in this brand of football, everybody knows what works best for them. I would definitely love some insight from solitaire coaches on how to proceed. MantarayeDre is the facilitator of this division as he so humbly accepted another "Thankless Job" so if you got any suggestions, let's talk 'em up here. Reg |

I posted this before but I will put it here again. I propose a round robin solitaire tournament where everyone has to play the opposing coach on their field by their rules for a real home field advantage. Probably want to keep it small. No more than maybe 6 to 8 guys. All rules have to be published on the solitaire board in advance of the games so the other coaches can get a chance to familiarize themselves with them if they wish. Also no weight limits or equipment restrictions.
It wouldn't be so much to see who wins but to see the different rule sets in action and to have fun. Keep it as low stress as possible.

This is something that is being considered...
as my hope is to bring solitaire coaches into the forefront. One thing that MantarayeDre and I have discussed is that since this is a Shootout event, the basis of the rules should have some flava of the Shootout spirit.
I like that to an extent but I want coaches to be free to use what has made them successful and continued to have interest in the game, which is their own ruleset. The college and pro divisions will be strictly Shootout rulesets (one for pro and the other college) and those will be handled by Michael Robertson and myself, respectively. MantarayDre will be the administer of the solitaire division and I know he would love your insight on rule selection. The thing is that the ruleset should be based on those who are coming to participate. It's nice when guys want to help in creating rules, but we want the people especially who will invest their time to come here and participate. I kinda like something like a random draw from the various rulesets and 1-hour running clock games must be played, using someone else teams. Just a thought??? This is why public steering is needed. We all know how we play but it helps to have steering of the rules and suggestion. Reg |

The more I think about it, I agree that we should have some basic rules in common. For instance, maybe we can have the 4 grams weight limit from shoot out. Or perhaps we can use the shot out rules timing so games don't drag on forever.

i think
coaches,
Lets just keep the style shoot out bases as the blueprint. But you craft your offense how you play on your own . For iinstance 1) i like playing 2 stops on offense with the defense turning there defensive backs to run with the receiver. When im on offense, this should be my rule to play. 2)someone else may play 1 stop using attack passing or a different form of pass placement then i do. when the are on offense this is there style of play. before each game all you have to do is notify each coach how you play offensive and they just defend it. ofcourse some written material will be put out way before hand. let each coach do kickoffs how he normally does them. Play offense how you play with the addition of the box incorporated offense means 1)punts 2)kickoffs 3)field goals run plays 4)pass plays/ before a game i will tell a coach to release my receivers and tight ends Also, i used a basic 4yard pass stick. i wont bring the laser. ***maybe some new things can be created for the box regarding solitaire play. This all gives each coach the opportunity to be comfortable playing in the own sets BUT PLAYING WITH THE ADDITION THE THE BOX. i will all flow quite well. **i really don't want to play with someone elses team and someone plays with my team. Im not going to do that. ofcourse, 4.0 is the weight limit. I play weighted but will play 4.0 to coincide with the shootout weight limit. mantaraydre

Dre, that makes a lot of sense. I think Coaches should be able to use their own teams if they have one they want to play with. I say just have the 4g weight limit.

Other than the 4g limit, which I agree with, I think people should just be able to run what they brung, as it were.
