Tournament hosting Question ?
Can I get some feed back about hosting Georgia Rumble Tournament presented by DSMFL. I recently found out there is a meeting being held at the Miggle Convention about making a rule set for all tournaments. The DSMFL has being trying to present there tournament for 3 years. Each time it was cancelled because the respect given to other establish tournaments. I was told by David Nickles this meeting was going to happening on that Friday night. The Bama Blast is hosted by David Nickles not DSMFL. The Dixie is hosted by Beenutt we support these tournament every year with majority of coaches coming from Ga, SC for Bama and Ga, NC,and some coaches from BEFL for Dixie. After discussing this matter with Brian, David Redmond and Rafiyq and Charles Lane. We want to host a tournament representing our style of play to the coaches in this hobby to show appreciation we have for the game. But i was recently told we wouldn 't get support due to all of the other tournaments already exits. My question is what are the positive or negatives you see in attending a tournment in Atlanta area ? This tournament awards and dinner will be sponsor the first year. We do have Board of Directors : Brian Redmond, Charles Lane, Alan Ridgell, James Sheally these are our Champions of DSMFL. The new Champion joins the board at the end of season if not already present. Please can we have some feed back about hosting a tournament.

I say pick a weekend and do it. Try to pick a date that does not interfere with another areas tourny , but sometimes things happen, like having 2 different tournys on the same weekend.
Have your own tourny to showcase your rules , coaches, characters , etc. Even if you only get 8- 10 coaches . I think tournaments are more about having fun and playing against coaches that have different styles and offensive and defensive schemes. Last edited by jeff : 12-10-2010 at 02:38 PM. |

Jasper, check with Bruce Watts. He is the driving force behind the "PRO League". I can't speak for him but I believe there could potentially be a place for the Georgia Rumble in the mix. I believe that each tourney still runs with its own set of rules as always, but as a side tourney there will be PRO League games which will be played under the same set of rules in each region.
In some ways you could compare the PRO League to the Chase For The Cup in Nascar, but like I said its Bruce's baby. Overall the idea is to promote the regional tournaments as they are the life blood of the future of the game and the PRO League would require any league coaches to attend not only their own regional event, but one other thus sending more coaches toeach event then what has been in the past.

Do Yo Thang Mang... Do Yo Thang
Yo Jasper,
Here's the deal mang... it all depends on your aim. If you aspire to get a serious turn-out, you might have to take the political approach and rub some elbows. But, from my observations, if that is not done correctly, you might be truly disappointed. However, if you are truly just interested in putting on a tourney, build it and they will eventually come. Even if you pick a date during or close to another established tourney, that might be o-kay too. First and foremost, see what type of local support you might have and go from there. Secondly, try to pick a time where most local folk will be available and will not have plans to attend another tourney. Once you've done that, build it and eventually more might partake. Try not to concern yourself with too many other things for coaches outside of your locale. The reason I say this is because you simply can't depend on them. Create your foundation locally then advertise, but do not expect a huge helping of support from outside coaches. If you get that... great, but do not base your tourney on it. Once you have established it and hyped it, more and more coaches will become interested and might actually test the waters. Do yo thang mang... do yo thang.... Peace |

Excuse me, BUT
YOU SAID,.........But i was recently told we wouldn 't get support due to all of the other tournaments already exits. My question is what are the positive or negatives you see in attending a tournment in Atlanta area ?
Norbert says, who in the heck told you that ?, don't tell me, (smile),..to get established, you must start, start it my friend, so what if tons don't show, just keep doing it, and it will takeoff, we need more tourneys out there for sure, if you want to take on the hard work to start this up do it please, don't ask questions as to why and such, just do it, in 2 or 3 years it will take off,.........I myself am thinking of a tournament for the Michigan area. P.S. I'm thinking, going to atlanta in the winter months,....HUH, no brainer. Norbert Revels

Just do it!
I totally agree with Jeff, AB, and Norbert. Just do it. Build it and they will come.
The MFCA Marketing Committee will assist where we can to help you promote it. I'd take Lynn's advice and touch base with Bruce to see what's going on with what he's developing BUT you don't need anyone's permission to do yo thang! Don

Never feel bad if...
people don't show.
You know how many critics I had for tourneys and everything else? You just do it. The only thing I say is that if you are gonna create a following, you've got to be consistent and have it every year. You've got to understand as well (or this is what I had to accept) that everybody may not be interested in what you are doing. It's just a part of it. But don't let that foolishness disuade you. Have it when you want to and be strategical when planning. Reg |

the DSEFL will also team up with you guys to help get this thing going. For years now we have been talking about hosting a GA Rumble, I think that the time has come and it is time for us to show the rest of the Leagues that we are ready. Let me know what I can do or need to do to help you make this a real deal tourney.
