Default how many coches got off to a bad start in there league debut ?

coaches,

How many of you coaches got off to a terrible start in a league debut and what did you do to overcome it. There has to be many coaches out there who had to take major lumps in a brand new system before he righted the ship. pep woods told me he had to pay his dues before he started winning. Even the great great, one more time, great michael robertson said he was terrible before he learned the system. he is thegreatest coach i ever saw play. I scored a td on him at the texas shootout although i think he let me.

Pep is a great player, mike is a great player, and they both had to learn. I did not go home feeling dejected because it's only a matter of time before the great HOUSTONITES GETS TO ROLLING

Default re

I won my first league game this year. I then lost my next 2 ! I had a chance to win both of them , but was unable to pull it off. In the past I won those kind of games.
I have lost 2 games so far this year. I have only lost 5-6 games in the 3 years I played before, and I used 2 teams. My Oilers never lost in 2 1/2 years and was able to make the plays when needed .
Looks like I need some practice . Funny thing is, I had a good time even when I lost those 2 games .
I think I have mellowed out alittle. I am still trying to win , I am just not disappointed when I do not win now.

Default This might Help

There have been coaches who got off to a bad start in my league and hear is why.

Preperation: They are not prepared and don't fully understand what they are getting into, they don't practice, and can't function under pressure.

False Confidence:
Many coaches put confidence in there ability to use the TTQB, or there bases. But this has nothing to do with coaching.

Understanding Formations: Coaches must understan there formation, don't just set up a formation just to be setting up, understand what you're doing.

Countering:You must be able to counter what you're opponent is doing, hoping for a missed pass or some type of error on the part of the other coach is no way to play.

Default Hey ant "excellent breakdown"

Hey ant

That an excelent breakdown. What you wrote myself and many others can learn from. Your right, you cant set up just to be setting up. Alot of that is due to pressure, but you have to lose and learn. It will all come with age.

Default Another Point

One more point and this is key.

Male Pride:

See most men have too much pride, they don't want to feel like someone is smarter than them, they will not ask for help, knowing they need it. Then they get into a game and look bad, very bad.

The Bible says "pride goth befor a fall". Men need to learn first, ask question that relate to learning a subject. Don't be so quick to want to change something because you can't rap you're brain around the subject and you will not ask for help.

Remember you must crawl and stumble befor you can walk. No short cuts, so we must learn it the right way and stop trying to win fast.

Default Ant....

I like and agree with some of the points you make.

I prefer to keep it simple. So, looking back, there are two things I noticed that you can do for yourself to improve.

1) Read, read and re-read your rule set. Ask questions. Get interpretations
and input from various coaches. Knowing and understaing your rule set
plays a major part in this process.

2) Practice, practice, practice. After a certain point, you will hit a plateau
practicing against yourself. You need to practice as frequently as
possible against other coaches that bring different flavors for you to
think about. Also, every game and practice session is meant to be a
learning experience. Always learn someting from every experience.

I, too struggled in the beginning as I am sure many of us have. I was frustrated at playing .500 ball. Most games were close and I could not put my finger on it. But, in time that all came to pass.

Just keep plugging away on a consistant basis!!!
