The NFL is Nothing But Black, Red, and Blue
Has anyone noticed that the NFL's uniforms have changed dramatically during the last 10 years.
Gone are the bright pastel orange of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in the place of it; the drab pewter and deep red (and black) variation of today. The Patriots have turned in their bright red traditional uniform for royal blue in the 1990s and now for a deep navy blue (and sometimes a drab gray). Even the Denver Broncos orange crush image was blasted out with a dark navy blue uniform. Currently, 15 of the 32 teams in the NFL are currently sporting shades of blue in their jerseys, most of them dark. 10 teams wear at least one variation of black. 8 teams have shades of red in their jerseys. In fact, only NYJ, GB, MIN, MIA, and CLE are without a jersey in a shade of black, red, or blue. I have nothing against blue you understand, it's the dark shades that I'm speaking of. Does our troubled society now like black jerseys better? Make no mistake that black is a very aggressive color. Heck, even Spiderman, Batman, and the X-men were changed to black for the big screen. What next, Wonder Woman in black leather? Apollo Creed in black boxing trunks? They tried Superman in black once in the comics; disaster and they changed him back! Is it possible that our National flag colors of red, white, and blue are so ingrained into our consciousness that we respond better to the images? Most of the teams in FIFA world cup feature the colors of their National Flag in the uniforms. But the NFL has 32 teams for one country. It is interesting how art, tradition, and marketing combine to influence what we like and respond to. Has anyone else noticed this trend? Most of the uniform variations that hype up big games are lighter colors of the regular. From the Giants in red, to the Power Blue Chargers, to the Miami Orange, the Steelers and Redskins with yellow helmets, to the Cowboys in mostly white. Its as if the League gives us a brighter color scheme just long enough to excite us, then returns us to the dark and drab colors of the moment. Poor Spidey looks suicidal in his black uniform!! THe NFL (No Funds Lost) has surely researched this. If they would think they could pull an extra buck out of our pocket by painting the fields pink they would do it. It almost exclusively has to do with money over the game. I am just thankful that my Chiefs have not yet gone to an alternate black jersy (or even worse yellow) even though it has been talked about in the past.
So are you adding the little green dots to the decal sheets for the QB's? I hate seeing those dots on the helmet. Its like those sticky dots that you use on your garage sale items and it looks tacky!

No, but I do have the Captain "C" patches and many other awesome additions. Stay tuned. I'm going to do this in '08 for sure. No distractions!
I have had trouble getting the right quality paper. Decal supplies are getting more scarce and more expensive! It has really held up my decal project. WS Also. I'm not saying that I don't like the current uniforms. I actually prefer them. But WHY do I prefer them. That is the question... Last edited by Decal Master : 11-20-2007 at 01:45 AM. |

For those of us who wish to paint ALL the indoor teams for solitaire leagues..
You know.. AF2, UIF, Intense, CIFL, AIFA, NIFL, APFL, GLIFL and even the old IFL, IPFL, WIFL, and I'm sure a few others I haven't mentioned... It's gotten ridiculous with so many black helmet, black jersey, and black pants teams... many with just a hint of red in the trim... it's almost impossible to distinguish them.. (gotta wear my reading glasses in some cases to make out the decal on the helmet) |

I thought I was the only one who was tired of seeing the lack of color. The same is happening in the NHL. Anything to sell you a jersey.

I have definitely noticed the trend, which I why I go with old school or and alternate uniform every chance I get. I painted the Chargers in powder blue just to keep from going Navy blue. I also did the Patriots in their old red jersies and white for the defense.
My fantasy team is the Snipers and their colors are green, black, and white. I decided to go with mostly green and white, and only use black as a trim color. I prefer the bright colors of the past. Have you ever looked up the effect of certain colors on people psychologically? It's an interesting study. I know that the President wears a blue suit, because this suggest power and stability. A salesman in a blue suit will sell more than a salesman in a brown suit, assuming they are of equal skill. If you are going into a confrontational meeting, don't wear red. It may just p off the people you are meeting. Food for thought. |
