Same Rules As My Illinois Season
1. Big Board: 24" x 48" or larger.
2. Strategy Divider: ensures OL splits and prevents D from stacking to what they "see." 3. The BOX: determines Kick Offs*, Punts, Penalties, Injuries and Fumbles. The Defensive coach shakes The Box 1x per play during any stoppage. o Double 1s = Fumble; shake again - 1d6 determines possession; o Double 2s = offsetting Penalties, replay down; o Double 3s = Minor Penalty (see chart on BOX); o Double 4s = Major Penalty (see chart on BOX); o Double 5s = Minor Injury (see chart on BOX); o Double 6s = Major Injury (see chart on BOX). 4. Play Stoppage Timer: approximate 10yd sprint is equivalent to 1.5 seconds per phase of play i.e. time between hand-off and cutback or receiver’s sprint and stem. 5. Tackles: o FOB: Front-of-Base contact constitutes a tackle on most plays. See below for exceptions. FOB is the area between and including the front left corner to the front right corner. o ABC: Any Base Contact constitutes a tackle on Pass Plays to engaged receivers. 6. Multi-Stop: o Both teams setup simultaneously. Offense must call out all receivers immediately. o Offense must say "set" before :35 second clock expires; o Defense must say "set" before additional :10 second clock expires; o Quick on and off to simulate "snap"; o O adjusts all unengaged players; (:20 seconds) o D adjusts all unengaged players. DBs must release WRs and cannot interfere with WRs' routes, meaning they must completely rotate around to run alongside of the WR according to which side of the WR their head was after contact. (:20 seconds) o O calls "run #??" or "pass"; (:10 seconds to decide) if "run" was called, board now runs until play completion; if "pass" was called, board runs until the timer guy completes his sprint from one end of the “track” to the other; o O either adjusts all unengaged players to execute longer pass play or immediately uses TTQB to complete pass to intended receiver, after which O can only a/a one eligible receiver to throw a block; (:20 seconds) o If TTQB Pass is completed, then D can adjust all unengaged players to make the tackle. o If the pass play is being extended, the D can adjust their DBs to contact the WR, as if they are breaking on the imaginary ball in the air; (:20 seconds) o Run the board again until the timer guy completes his sprint from one end of the “track” to the other, or until a “sack” occurs or QB runs out-of-bounds or crosses the LOS, in which case the board continues until QB gains 10yds or forward progress ceases or FOB tackle occurs. o O must now either throw the ball to a WR; throw it away, scramble* or down it at the spot. Engaged WRs are eligible if contacted by Defense, or if they have only one corner OB, but are down at the spot. (:20 seconds to execute) 7. Passing: o TTQB passing only. One attempt per play. o ALL manufactured footballs are allowed. o Engaged receivers ARE eligible to pass to, but are down at the spot: If they are more than 10 yards downfield; And as long as there are no unengaged eligible receivers elsewhere. o Upon completions, receivers are NOT allowed to be turned UNLESS they are: deeper than the deepest Defender and unengaged; or behind the LOS and unengaged. o Auto-incompletes are only allowed if the QB is outside of the Offensive Tackles; otherwise QB must either scramble or take the loss or sack at the spot. o Hail Mary Pass Plays are allowed but will burn your TOs, so 3 MAX per Half. OFFENSE runs the board as long as it takes to get a receiver open after the “snap” in which DBs still have to release the WRs!!! QB Scrambles are NOT allowed on Hail Mary Pass Plays! Pass must still be attempted and Intentional Grounding Penalty will apply, so know the rule and overthrow or underthrow within reason. 8. Kicking: o Using the 3d6 in The BOX: the 2 same-colored D6 determine yardage of Kick/Punt from the KO team's 45-yard line; (Any doubles are OB kicks - 1st and 10 at KR team's 40-yard line) the single D6 determines the zone in which the Kick/Punt lands, from KO team's left to right: • Zone between left sideline and numbers; • Zone between left numbers and left hashmarks; • Zone between the hashmarks; • Zone between the hashmarks; • Zone between right hashmarks and numbers; • Zone between right hashmarks and sideline. Hangtime clock is determined by length of Kick/Punt plus 1 because of board size: • 10-19 yards = :02 seconds • 20-29 yards = :03 seconds • 30-39 yards = :04 seconds • 40+ yards = :05 seconds o Using the TTQB to physically Kick-Off 3 chances to kick a fair ball i.e. ball MUST stay on the board. 1st fair ball is played. Ball is returned from whence it lands, not where it 1st hit. Unless “onside kick” is declared, if ball hits any player on KR team, ball is returned from that spot after applicable hangtime. No hangtime if it hits a player on the Front 5. If “onside kick” is declared and the ball hits one of the KR team’s Front 5, then it is considered a live ball and 1st team to recover the ball gains possession. (:05 seconds maximum board time) 9. Strict Timing: o Four 15-minute Quarters. See Addendum on clock stoppages. o 3 Timeouts per Half (to reset Play Clock, not to add plays); o 1 Challenge per Half either by Video or by dice; if Challenge is upheld, challenging team loses 1 TO; if Challenge is overturned, doesn’t cost a TO. o “O” has :35 seconds to setup after teams are separated and SD is emplaced; o “O” must call ALL receivers 1st! o "D” has additional :10 seconds after O says “set”; o :20 seconds for adjustments; o :10 seconds to make Play Call; o :20 seconds to Pass once board is stopped. o Both teams MUST say “set” before their allotted time expires in all phases of Setup, Adjustments and Play Call or a Delay of Game Penalty will be charged. (5yds and replay Down) 10. Overtime: o Each team will get equal possessions (1st Downs are possible) from the 25-yardline to outscore the other team; o Winner of coin toss chooses either possession or goal to defend; o Both teams attempt to score into the same endzone. o If tied, switch ends and switch order of possession; o After 2nd possession TDs, must go for 2PAT. 11. Fallen Players: First off, if more than 2 players on each team fall over, then the board speed needs to be adjusted. Otherwise, ALL unengaged players - other than the ball carrier - may be picked up and reset to participate in the play. o A broken tackle occurs when the tackling Defender falls down upon contact. Play continues until a solid tackle is made; or TD; or OB; or FP ceases. o An automatic fumble occurs when the ball carrier falls down upon contact. Possession is determined by shaking the single D6 in The Box. 12. Heisman Watch: o Stats will be averaged for Illinois' 12 games and Awards will be issued for the same categories as in real life based on your one game stats, unless you choose to play a whole season as well! o Rivalry Game winners will be awarded with appropriate trinkets i.e. Illinois’s game with Ohio State for the Illibuck and with Northwestern for the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk! |
