Default Are The Day's Of Playing 3.2 Slowly Becoming A Pastime.

Coaches,

I noticed many coaches around the country are starting to upgrade their teams to a higher weight. Some are going 3.8, some 3.6 some 4.0 and even unlimited. Playing 3.2 was status quo in the past but i think it is slowly becoming phased out. The only 3.2 team i have are my swb mantaray's.

At 4.0 the fig's fly down field at the same speed of a 3.2 player. There may be some coaches still reluctant to transfer over to a higher weight due to having teams already made. What are some of your experiences playing at both weights. Do you notice any difference in the performance of your team?

I personally feel it's crazy to sand a figure, drill holes to rid the fig of some of it's plastic, cut off part off a base and all these little things to make weight.
Why cant we just paint and decal a fig, stick him on a scale and whatever he weigh's he weigh's. I see coaches at events chopping and driilling and sanding you would think we were at a construction site.

I like jimbo and ant burgess because they have the mentality to just want to line up and play.

I have a question, if we are playing in a style that is open (no stacking and lineman spread a base length apart) linebacker at 3 to 5 yards behind the lineman. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES THE WEIGHT MAKE ON YOU RUNNING YOUR PLAY ? THE SAME THING GOES WITH BOILED BASES, IF IT'S A BOILED VS NON BOILED SITUATION, ARENT YOU SUPPOSED TO HAVE BLOCKING SCHEMES AND STUNTS TO PLAY EITHER OFF OR DEF.

Wr's, what diff does it make what they weigh if we are going to play a style where we play bump and run, not jamming at the line. I LOVE THE BUMP AND RUN WAY OF PLAYING. If the wr is 4.5 and the db is 6.8, they still have to run down field together ! Would'nt it fun to watch that WR throw a block on that DB !!!!!!!!

Default Nope

3.2 is still in effect in our league. Doubt it will change.

Dre' I do think that the 3.2 weight is getting old as we have figure's out there that are larger, better detail, and one's you can customize. With each little add on ie face mask, rolls, chin straps etc. you have to go up in weight. Also I think the players perform better at a higher weight. Now I wouldn't say get rid of the 3.2 figure because it's eaire to add weight than it is to take off. Leagues just have to be open to allowing weight to be added. Just my take. 3.6-4.0 is good!

Default Very Interesting Topic

I don't know if that is the wave of the future. I do know is that change is hard sometimes, even if you know its for the good of the game. Sometimes for politics, change is not allowed or wanted too. I've seen it in miniature football. It's the nature of the beast.

I think leagues should always conform to what they agree on as a whole, not what someone else think is right. I think leagues who feel 3.2 grams work for them should stay at that level as teams who enjoy the 4.0 gram system.

I know that the 3.2 gram system was invented because at that time, we had no standard. Thus, the Hong Kong Big Man (Blocker) on a TTC light green base was used as a measuring stick. We also did the measurement with the brown base (which was slightly heavier). This was done to include all figures and bases into the Shootout. We never thought this would become the standard throughout the country. I just felt in fairness to everybody with figures and equipment, we had to make it right for everybody.

Thus, when the 4.0 gram came into effect, it was all-inclusive. It was easier to add weight on to a figure by putting under the base than shaving up players and making them smaller.

As for the DFW League, I know we enjoy the game better at 4.0 grams. Players ZOOM down the field. Great hits happen and yes, you still get the surges from time to time but the performance has gone up ten-fold!

For me personally, I could never go back to 3.2 grams. I love a fast game where the action is taking place at break-neck speed and that's what the 4.0 gram standard gives my league, that type of action. And yes, we do see the plays develop but at a faster rate of speed and time.

We use a 3.5 now , this allows custom figures. However I am thinking about moving it to 3.6 . I still do not like the differences of one player having a team of 3.2 and another of 4.0 play vs each other, but with all of the available customizers out there now that should never happen. Everyone has access to the same equipment now.

Default 3.2........

.....I have witnessed doesn't allow for a fast track!! I like the field fast!!! I don't like it when men fall over and that is why 4.0 is good!!! 4.0 allows for not only a great gameplay but it also allows custom figures to be used without cutting and trimming them.

You make a great observation. I had that same discussion with a coach from Vegas the other day about a 3.2 team facing a 4.0 team or a Boiled base team.

It is not the same! That 3.2 team may make a few plays but over the span of a 60 minute football where you get about 100 plays, the score at the end of the day will be about 70-3!

When guys tell me to come to their show and play them. I tell them that my teams are 4.0. They say so, it's okay. I tell them it will not be worth their time or mine because they can't compete evenly.

Your last statement:

Everyone has access to the same equipment now.

Is a very valuable revelation! Now, everybody knows where the bodies are buried and if they don't know, someone will tell them.

Default Nothing wrong w/ 3.2

Another season is in the books under 3.2 and no problems mate. With a few exceptions the boards run great. Very competative games and I think our Season 7 rules and equipment is the best set we have hade to date. I would be willing to bet that more than one coach in our league could use his 3.2 team versus a 4.0 team for a full game and the final score may not be what you expect. Although you guys love your 4.0 system you seem to knock the lower weight like its the stone ages or something. 4.0 may work better for you (or your favorite figures or products) but that doesn't mean what works for other coaches or is antiquated and out of style, savy.

Not knocking 3.6 or 4.0 but 3.2 works well for us. I for one am satisfied with the 3.2 standard.
