Default Dre I've Told People this...

thousands of times. I've told the story of Dirk and I and the Texas Shootout thousands of times.

I never knew it would end up in heated discussions of what was right or wrong.

I was just looking for a system that would be fair to everyone that brought things to the table.

Default Can I Boil @ 4.0?

Since strength is no longer a factor with the advent of all of the new equipment available to everyone. If I buildt a 4.0 team, would I be able to use BOILED BASES?

Steve and Norbert,

I hope that you are not over reacting... The GLEFL is a model for all leagues and coaches to watch, admire and learn. If 3.2 is working for you don't fix it. I think what most here are saying that with the increased weight you can address several issues:

1) Custom Players are not restricted as much... no drilling, cutting up, putting the player on a lighter platform, etc.

2) You can play at a higher board speed... players are not tipping over, etc.

3) You can also set weight to player positions... Lineman 4.0, Linebaker, TE's, FB's 3.6, RB's, DB's QB's 3.2... more options... just a thought

4) Playing at 4.0 also removes the "player balance" issue. Again this adds some flexibility.

Wally

Default Wally J my friend....

....I couldn't have said it better!!!
My issue is if their 3.2 is more superior then 4.0 then tournaments at 3.2 would be a breeze for them because they would just pile drive folks in the ground!!!

Norb you my Dawg and all bro but you and I know that 3.2 against 4.0 would finally end of a mess at the end of the game.

Default asked and answered...

a big part of your question has already been aswered very well by Mr. Rutledge. As far as a debate is concerned I don't believe its relevant as it would assume that one weight is better than another, which is ridiculous proposition in the first place, as is the premise of this post. If the question is "is 3.2 a thing of the past" that question has been answered "NO" as there are still many Tournaments and Leagues (in fact, one of the largest) that still play at that standard.

If the question is "is 4.0 a BETTER standard" than 3.2, and hence a better game, well you already have your answer and you knew the answer before you wrote your post.

As to why our league decided to stay @ 3.2, I will allow those who are better versed in the area of bases, base tweaking and strength to answer that question. It suffices to say that there are as many reasons to play at 3.2 as there are to play at higher weights.

If you think your system/ weight is better, than just come out and say so.
Don't hide your intentions like you are seeking information when you have the information already.

We also did the measurement with the brown base (which was slightly heavier). This was done to include all figures and bases into the Shootout. We never thought this would become the standard throughout the country. I just felt in fairness to everybody with figures and equipment, we had to make it right for everybody.

Thus, when the 4.0 gram came into effect, it was all-inclusive. It was easier to add weight on to a figure by putting under the base than shaving up players and making them smaller.

....4.0 is better then 3.2. i played at 3.2, I am just saying that 4.0 gets a better response to the board.

Default I Hear Ya Rj, But...

I agree with you RJ. My thing is this...if 4.0 is better for the game because the men move faster, more evenly across the board, and are more balanced, then why not allow BOILED BASES to enhance it even more? I didn't take in to account in the 3.2 -V- 4.0 argument that everything was unboiled. I must agree with you (RJ), the heavier team will usually win. I thought the point in boiling bases from the jump was to get better performance out of an otherwise terrible base (out of the bag). As you and I know, it all comes down to tweaking no matter what weight. RJ, do you remember when we met in the NFC Championship Game Bucs -V- Panthers? Our weight limit was 3.2 at the time. The average weight of your men were 2.9 - 3.1, my average weight was 3.1 - 3.2. The minute weight difference did not make a difference, it still came down to tweaking and coaching, and you prevailed 21 - 14 (BOTH TEAMS HAD SOME BOILED BASES).

Default If I may...

Fellas,

The weight of your figures only matters when your playing in various leagues and tournament settings. There's nothing wrong with 3.2 if you like it! It's all good! However, with the expansion, creativity and experimentation the weight of our players increase. The speed of the board increases. The stlyes of play varies. There are som many ways to play this thing/1 there's no one right way to play. It's all up to you. Do what you like. I like stock figures on some speed bases. Give me some strength up front and a big board and I'm in it for the fun of it because I'm not wining a Got dizit dang! I'm busting belts, rings trophies, plaques anything I can get my hands on. Hey does anybody know if O.J. is still selling stuff?
