how do you know, or exactly what is a phantom bidder?

i dropped a bid on this, back when it was $50. when i looked at the bid history at around the $500 mark, my name had been turned into one of those code numbers. i know it was my bid though, had my number and my rating, but not my name. whay is this?

CAPANTHER (Coachback on this board) called it. he told me in the beginning of the auction that DukeKing would swoop in at the end and take this. i guees he is some collector or something.

but if anyone could answer those questions, i am sure it would help all of us alittle in dealing with ebay. it is ofcourse, a great asset in keeping the hobby going and in the public eye. its how i found you guys
