Not necessarily.. It just depends on how the game goes.. time of possession etc..

I've done stats on games that the # of plays has been unbalanced to the tune of.. 28 to 12..

2) There is no push rule. Again this allows you to run the play a little longer to see what develops before you have to commit to the run or pass.
3) There are punts. There are more returns which adds to the scoring.

I enjoy playing under both rule sets.

I like these.. (among others in the thread)
And since the TAEFL is a democracy and no single person dictates how we're gonna play.. We'll talk about these and I imagine we'll adopt some of them.

I would like to have a bigger board.. Plans were to have came out with one that was approx. 24 x 48.. With a sheet metal field and a field cover permanently affixed to the field.. But it, along with so many other things, was put on hold until I get the house sold in Wichita, and I get into a new house in Kansas City. (with a finished basement that is dedicated to playing electric football)

Keep em coming guys.. I appreciate it..

Default Probable Rules

There are three rules that I know will open the game up. The first rule could be front of base tackling. The defender must hit using any part of the front of his base. Any base touch stops the game more often. Furthermore, it robs the game of exciting plays.

Before I talk about the second rule, I want to make it clear that I am not talking about Anthony Burgess’ style play.

The second rule could be. Not adjusting the corners after the receiver is free opens the game as well. When a receiver gets open, there is no pivoting of the corner. After the pass is complete, the play resumes with the corner burned.

The third rule could be. Allow the quarterback to throw to a covered receiver.

Default Great Question, and some very good answers!

I'll throw my 2 cents worth in.

1. Allow the pivot of the wide receiver, and 1 defender, after a catch.
2. Somehow find a way to allow for Punt Returns. (we DO allow for interception returns already)
3. Eliminate the push rule?
4. Bump and run coverage, or zone defense only, instead of the holding of wide receivers at the line of scrimmage. (there will always be someone to pass to)

I think these have all been mentioned here on this thread already, and I think they all could work. I've had great kick returns, and thought that punt returns needed to be fit into a game somehow. In the NFL, a guy like Devin Hester, or Dante Hall can kill you with a punt return too, not just on kickoffs.

The front of "base tackling only" is also a GREAT idea. I would like to see that, if nothing else.

Default NDEFL Rules

Our rules take a little from many sets, here are the main ones of note...

1. FOB - front of base tackle only on all plays.

2. 12 plays per quarter. KO returns DO count as a play.

3. 3 time-outs per half per team.

4. No push rule and QB can keep and run whenever he wants.

5. On a completion can adjust Pass Receiver and 2 un-engaged defensive players.

6. Overtime is 4 plays from the 50. If score a TD must go for 2 pt. conversion.

Terry,
By our opening day I will show with the way to add punting into the game with the Touch & Distance Kicker. That, onside kicks, coffin corner kicks, and real kick offs. You are gonna love it!

Default Speed And Clocks

Crank up the speed as fast as it'll go without making your players fall over! That alone will improve the game. Throw in timed adjustments and watch mistakes and oversights come into play, just like the REAL game.

Bigger boards and turn and burn and you should score 20 + points per game average . I am not sure why I am not able to score 20 + though.

lots of good ideas posted already, but only a couple will help right away the rest can happen over time.

1 - make passing simple. either use TTQB-to-WR or Pass simulation but not both in combo (as in NHFL). This should speed up the process and provide better plays down field.

2 - if you don't want full FOB Tackling, go to 3-sides tackling Any Touch.

3 - Keep the No-Stacking

4 - allow the push-rule, but remove the "call pass/run before the play" - gives the offense more options.

5 - limit the number of pivots after the catch for the defense. in the NEFL we allow only 4 after the catch with no turning of the receiver.
