You have all heard that old saying, DONT TUG ON SUPERMANS CAPE .... well lastnight i went into the (not so) friendly comfines of VINCE PEOTROS stadium. I have been workng on my Carolina Panther team for about 4 months now and thought i was making real progress with them as i have been using them to play with the laefl guys and doing really well with them. i have even gotten props from vince on how far i have come with my tweeking skills...so...i thought i would give that old cape a tug last night and ask for a scrimmage.
i got the ball first, gained five yards and had to punt, thats to be expected no biggie. Vince took over at his 24 yardline. now.. my defensive line is no slouch...in other games noone was able to run up the middle on them and i thought i had gotten pretty good at stuffing that kind of run. Even my friend Bill Porche' has not been able to crack that line and i have never beaten him... yet...
So.. Vince lines up his front five...running back. quarter back and halfback in the backfield.... i put up my 3- 4 style defence, the front 3 and middle lineback are all STRONG by most standards....or so i thought...
when that board came on it was ...dependng on what side of the ball you were on.... amazing / devastating as his front 5 and quarterback..all running in unison as if all magically glued together took off down the field for a 65 yard plow job. After i picked up my jaw from the floor, i said .. Wait a minute...that didn,t just happen....but it had!!!
NOW before anyone says "yeah but he uses boiled bases" THIER WERE NO BOILED BASES ON EITHER TEAM !!!!! It was the most incredible display of strength and unity i have ever see in a offence EVER....
After the game 23 of my panthers got cut and have to be redone...in those include the whole defensive and offensive lines and backers .
But after the game...the man was nice enought to go to his secret fortress of solitude to retrive his magical tweeking pliers and show me how to do what i had just seen happen.
so just let me say this....when the man says he can gain 5000 yards rushing..or pass for 7000 yards....you just dont know...and trust me...you dont want to find out either..
Vince, i love ya man....thanks for keeping this fire burning under my butt....and next time we meet...well i dont plan on getting pushed like that again...but we shall see.....

I am sorry for the loss that you have taken. I hope that you will get your team better. That is the type of enthusiasm that is needed to be in this hobby. You are a man that takes losing well.

I read Vince’s post concerning his passing stats. Those numbers are seriously high for a 14 game season. Vince made this statement in the thread entitled “What's Your Opinion On Usage Of Hard To Find Product”. If you do the math on those stats, that means he passed for 564.29 yds per game. How the game is timed can have an effect on stats. Allow me to speculate because I wasn’t there. If you play with 15-minute quarters, a game can last maybe 2.5 hours.

In order to get that amount of yards in electric football, your opponent would have to stop you quickly with three and out. He then would have to take the ball deep from his own territory. Let’s spot the ball at his goal line. The first play from scrimmage would have to be a touchdown. That stat would be one completion for 100 yards. This same phenomenon would have to take place again in the next possession because he is in a race against time. That would put him at two completions for 200 yards.

Now he is at a point where he can coast to getting 300 plus yards by throwing deep balls, screens, and underneath, etc.

In real football, the premier, top rated qb throws for 300 plus yards in an entire game. He may do this consistently throughout the season. By the end of the season, they may have 3,000 or more yards. That’s normal given the nature of the sport. If he throws for 400 yards in one game like Tom Brady did last season, that is freakish. Or the team may not possess a running game. The 80’s San Diego Chargers with Dan Fouts under center had that problem. If a real life qb ever passes for 500 or more yards in a game, look at the opponent. They probably offered no resistance offensively and especially defensively.

This same philosophy can be applied to this hobby. Vince racked up those stats because his opponents offer no resistance to his team. Vince’s receivers are probably pushing opponent corners off the line of scrimmage without getting turned away from the end zone. If he played against resistant corners, he wouldn’t be able to go down the field in one play. It would take him multiple plays to go down the field, which takes time off of the clock.

That had to hurt . Especially after putting the time in to put your team together. I'm just curious, you said that you got plowed for 65 yards. Can you tell us a little more on how the offense was setup? I'm thinking that the oline was set up base to base. What figures were used... wide arm DB figures? RB's and QB all tucked together base to base? When you D'd up against him did go man up on the d-line or were you covering the gaps? I'm sure I'm not the only one here that would like to know.

It cannot be fun winning by 50 each time. I enjoy the close games and the tension that goes with them .

ok...the set up was a standard 5 man line...spaced a half base apart from each other... the qb rb and hb were behind the qb behind center and the rbs 1 base space behind that and the recievers out wide..

when the audible was made the hb is turned away from the play and the qb and the fullback run together into the line.. thats pretty much it..nothing fancy.. my loopers went around trying to get the runner in the bac field but by the time they got there the line had already pushed forward to far and they ran right by....my backers ran up but they are not to strong so it was not much help. the figures used were standard hatie repros. mine are all ff.com and 67 bigs. hope that helps

Since your defensive line isn’t that strong, you might not want to blitz all of the time.

Base accuracy is everything in a 3-4 defense, which you used. To be successful using this defense, your linebackers and safeties must be extremely accurate when it comes time to fill a hole. Furthermore, they mustn’t be too fast, for they will reach the point of attack too early.

Until you get your line stronger, send one blitzer or no blitzers. Also try switching to a 4-3, for it offers more resistance against the run.

Don’t feel bad about this; it will pass. You will get better as you learn more about this hobby.

Although I don’t know Vince, it appears that he enjoys smacking people around. He knows that you are new. He should be taking it easy with you right now.

I normally don’t participate in tournaments for reasons that have nothing to do with this issue. To play against Vince, I would make an exception. I would like to see if he could run on me like that, but you are located on the West coast.

thanks guys i do appreciate the support.
I dont plan on quitting and i am not discouraged at all as vince is the exception not the rule when playin this gr8 game. like i had said..the team was performing well against most people i had played.
Vince is just one of those people that can sit down and figure out something from all angles and i dont mind that. he was NOT trying to be mean but more trying to show me the possabilities of what CAN be achieved if i continue to practice the art of tweeking and the study of the game.
I dont take the game personally, i look at is as a chance to learn more about the hobby i love so much and a opportunity to get better at what i do .
to me...there is no shame in getting schooled by a master, if i had played reggie rutledge, mike klingbalm, norbert revels. dc smith or any of the other great coaches out there, the results would most likely be the same, but i still look forward to that day when i can look them in thier eyes, smile, and no matter what happens say honestly.. THANKS FOR A GR8 GAME and who knows.. maybe someday i will win a tournament and i can look back at this time and just laugh about the time i got punked like the rookie i am

That's the right attitude... always be willing to learn. Next time you scrimage him, like Electric Coach suggested run a 4-3. Control the gaps and try to brake up that o-line. When a guy like that is much stronger than you, that's one scheme you can use.
