Dont get all salty when someone (or me) doesnt agree with your idea Dre. it aint no biggie.
but since you asked - what i mean is if i have a guy who is within the 5 yard distance of a stick simulation pass (red), i dont want to roll your 7 and 6 and now make it a 13 yard pass which could place the ball near the defense. what do i do then, say never mind and throw it away wasting a down? when all i needed to do was complete my 5 yard dump to the wide open RB in the flat. OR, i dont want my opponent rolling snakeyes on a bluestick bomb where it will be easily completed, as opposed to having to jet 15 yard or so and beat out my defenders. Now whats wrong with that counter point?

and my argument (frustration rather) against the sticks was backed up by you and someone else- having the guys run to the ball and "catch it". how does rolling a double sixes, or any number, help with that problem?
however,
if i have it correct, your attempt is to speed up the game when using some form of pass simulation. AND THATS FINE. but i just said it doesnt solve the true problem of passing sticks. and for the most part, i havent had a problem with the speed of the sticks to point where i would want to change it. now if you and others want to try, that is straight cool with me. but you asked for feedback and you got it, so accept it!

Also, i have a healthy respect for Don. what with i have heard about him coupled with his kindness, encouragement and good words on the phone the few times we have spoken. but gotta say, so what the "uncle" Don SMith, one of the "GREATEST" passers of alltime likes the idea. does that mean we should all like it? The Great PrettyBoy thought my comment was funny (wasnt tryin to be), does that mean we should all laugh too? come on with that!

and as far as changing the game to improve it, i am all for it. but like you said, not everyone can play in the movie, some people have to go watch it.
so everyone does not have to rise up and make change in hobby when they dont like something. and many do make change, but just dont blast it on the board for all to fall in line and follow along.

but again, like i said in my first post, i do appreciate your thought provoking questions and they are good for discussion. Sincerely, keep them coming.

I just threw it out there like i said in the initial post. If someone can fine tune it that would be great !

1) I love wolf's idea, i alway's felt the defense should get a play on the ball.

2) Tron, glad you like it. just something else to try that may work out.


3) coaches with problems such as fatigue, back, legs, feet, whatever prevents you from wanting to stand, Period, or for just that one game, this may help out.

I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR SOME MORE OF WOLF'S THOUGHT'S ON WHAT HE PROPOSED!!!!

Default Simplification Anyone?

I love the fact that we're trying to speed up the game, I refuse to go beyond the 2 hour mark ever again!!! If we all approached this game like we did when we played sports, then I think our games would be more FUN. Would you ride a roller coaster at 2mph? Heck no! Gimme my money back! Crank it up to 100mph or more and we're in bidness!!! Same goes for this. Or at least it should.

I'm not bragging, but I believe myself to be quite proficient with either the TTQB or the TDQ. I would rather use those skills when playing others. It gets boring to hit almost every pass in solitaire, so I'd rather use a gimmick i.e. sticks, dice or spinners. I don't have to stand up and the probabilities are more in line with real game stats.

When it comes to sticks ("Chopsticks"), dice ("Yahtzee") or spinners ("Twister"), sure they add the flavor of outside boardgames - we've been down this road before, but they also enable ANYONE to play the game. When I had ample supply of non-breakable TTQBs, I wouldn't hesitate to teach a newbie how to pass. When I got down to my last few, I cringed when I watched them crank that sucker ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE BOARD and then fire a scud missile over the big screen tv into spiderland, never to see the light of day again! After a few of those, that TTQB ends up in the collection of dead plastic. Why put ourselves thru that. He couldn't replace that TTQB if he wanted to because Miggle's plastic isn't the same anymore. Sure the answer is G-Force's TDQ, but again, do you want a newbie practicing on your one-and-only? A veteran "yes" a newbie "Maybe not." NOT at $15 a pop.

What's the alternative? Sticks, dice or spinners. They ALL solve the problem of damaging OUR equipment. AND they make the game instantly PLAYABLE!

I use dice myself to determine my Offensive Formation, Defensive Formation, Defensive Play and then Offensive Play. Since I do practice this way quite often, I know which stick to use almost instantly. It takes me :10 seconds to "stick it", turn the WR AND turn ALL of the defensive players in the area. I find it funny when people say choosing the right stick takes too long. Aren't we smarter than a 5th Grader?

Here's how I'd use the dice like sticks, using the DFW's Action Box:
  • Offense shakes the Box.
  • The single D6 determines my QB's dropback (1-6 seconds)
  • Then the 2nd (different colored) D6 determines the zone of the WR I'm keying on:
  • 1-2 left hash to left sideline
  • 3-4 between the hashes
  • 5-6 right hash to right sideline
  • D12 determines ball distance from WR (a 1 means ball is dead-on accurate, a 12 means ball slipped, defensive pressure, etc.) Sounds realistic to me.
  • Let 'er rip!
  • After the play or during a stoppage, the Defense shakes the box again to determine Penalties, Injuries or Fumbles.
  • Voila!
  • NOTE: I would restrict the use of non-TTQB Passing to an entire Half or even the entire game. Being able to calculate which method is better for each play is the MAIN REASON games drag out. Pick one!

IF we're all as good as we think we are, this whole thing should take less than :20 seconds. Again I defer to the "5th Grader" comment above!?! :rolleyes: Bada Bing, Bada BOOM!!!

I love what you put up there. I just printed it out along with weirdwolf's idea. This also is a great set up for playing solitaire. I would love to hear you and wolf criss cross your idea's. you guy;s are more detailed on this stuff than i am.

Default Newcomers Handling Equipment

Jimbo,

When I am involved with newcomers, I keep them away from certain equipment. I don’t allow them to tweak new bases. I allow them to tweak a used based that I know will never play for me. I allow them to paint on some of my old figures that I use solely for testing paint and I give them a bottle of paint that is almost empty.

During a scrimmage, I allow them to use one of my game time teams, but they are not allowed to switch bases among the players. I do allow them to turn the dial on the TTC bases. If they want to throw, I allow them to point and touch the receiver of their choice for a completion. I never allow them to use the TTQB and now the TDQ unless they show me something special. So far, I have only met one newcomer who has ever done that.

Of course, I use all of my equipment for demonstration purposes. When the newbie ask why they aren’t allowed to use the TTQB, I simply tell them that they aren’t ready. I try to keep the newbie focused on the players moving on the table.

Most newcomers that I have encountered are heavy handed and clumsy. They reach for and grab the figures using all five fingers instead of two. Sometimes they use both hands to handle one figure. Some gaze upon the game table with a look as if they are overwhelmed. Then there are the newcomers who are over excited. They tend to take on too much too fast. They are so impatient; they won’t allow time for anything to sink in.

Basically, newcomers must be supervised. The best newcomers are those who touch nothing until they are told to do so. They are patient; in that, they try to understand what is going on before moving to the next thing.

Not much to combine. 2 Base-lengths is the same as ALWAYS using the shortest stick. That would DEFINITELY speed the game up, but it's always the same distance and eventually the D will sit within that range and it becomes "Pick City!"

There are 2 different POVs to consider - Competitive / Tournament or Solitaire / Casual FUN!!! The dice provide the variable needed for Competitive / Tourneys and the quick, fast short stick solves the latter. No way is wrong, I think they just fit in different scenarios.
