Any Boilermaker fans out there?

I made a 22 man home Boilermaker squad, and I thought I'd show them since this may be a team you don't see as much as some of the other college power houses. The "old gold" is actually a light coat of model master gold over the top of this nasty greenish/brown color called panzer dunkergelb_ I love the results and it really distinguishes them. My brother is a Purdue grad and I made them up for him to play with when he came to visit me last weekend (I even gave Alstott one of my strongest bases for the weekend- what a nice brother huh?).

Purdue looks sharp. Using clear paints over base coats provides a great finish. I used a clear green acrylic over silver for my Spartans and it worked really well. I sold that team @ the convention (wife said sell sell sell....), so I have to repaint them.

What team are you painting next?

I'm working on USC right now, and actually my next team will be MSU. I loved the look of your Spartans and that inspired me to do them next! I was already planning on taking your advice on the mettalic green over silver to mimic those boys in green that you had at Jimbo's college tourney. Thats a great tip to add pizzaz to a uniform! I am considering doing Purdue for a friend of mine. He is the defensive backs coach for Purdue. . Did you make your own decals?

I actually used BEENUT decals for the "P" on the side of the helmets and I made the other decals myself. I don't have any special printers so I had to paint a white stripe for the helmet and then place a "double black stripe" decal over the white paint line to get the 3 color helmet stripes. For the names and numbers I actually printed the decals on white decal paper in order to get the vibrant white (with gold trim) to show over the black jersys. To print decals on white paper you must print black (or the jersey color) around the numbers, however when you cut the decals out the black ink chips away requiring a lot of black touch up paint after the decals are placed. White decal paper is also stiffer than clear paper and doesn't "lay" down as nice on contoured surfaces (i.e. helmet stripes). In the end my "rookie" method of decals looks good, but I would recommend buying a decal sheet from one of the excellent decal sheet makers on this forumn if you are interested in saving a lot of time and effort (and they will also provide you with superior appearance). This is what I plan to try. Don't hesitate to PM me if you're interested in my "lessons learned" of making your own decals or if you want specifics details about the font, etc of the decals shown.

By the way, I used this method for my Michigan team too and it turned out very nice too. The key is to insure that the ink around the numbers matches the paint for the jersey. I am very particular about the yellow on "my team" and I just didn't think that the yellow decals that I had previously seen posted were vibrant enough when placed over dark jersies. However,from the recent pictures on this site it appears that the light colored decals are now "mastered".
