Thanks to Bryan, outstanding job. Bryan you are a first class guy. A big thanks to Joel for letting me stay at his house and especially Foy for the great meal. I can’t even begin to explain the meals I had on Friday and Saturday. All I can say is WOW! This was just a awesome time for me. I would like to give a big thanks to Old School for the great conversation Friday night, and Saturday morning. Don your a great person and I hope to see you soon. I enjoyed the great competition and fellowship during league play. I just don’t know if I can wait until July 12 to play, and see all these guys again. I hope everyone had a safe trip back home.

Thanks for a great time !

We should implement some sort of 4th down rule.

IMHO, you should not be able to go for it on 4th and 3+ if the game is tied or you are leading, but I'd live with a rule that you cant go for it 4th and 10 or more, leading or tied.

Crazy, we do not have any sort of 4th down rule. Very unrealistic IMHO.

Just my two cents.

I figure, if a team wants to go for it then by all means do so, tighten up the defense on him.

Just daghstrydr's two cents!

Default rules

In general, I like to have the minimum amount of rules possible in a league. I don't like rules that restrict the strategy of a coach. Every coach has their own personality in the way they go for first downs and how aggresive they want to be. At the Bama Blast, David Nickles went for it against me on 4 and 25 from his own five yard line on the first drive of the game with the scored tied 0-0. I said "Go for it" and just shook my head. He ran a sweep play for a 95 yard TD. That was and still is one of the most famous plays in Bama Blast history. So, I think you should be able to go for it anytime anywhere. If you want to gamble, it is up to you to pull it off. I think it is more realistic not to have rules restricting 4th downs. At Neyland Stadium (Tennessee), I witnessed Steve Spurrier going for it (while he was at Florida) ahead 28-0 in the second quarter at midfield on 4-10. Wuerfull threw a 50 yard TD to go up 34-0. Memories .

Bryan

No disrespect, but, c'mon you're talking about one coach out of thousands who PUNT or Kick FG's at 4th and 10+ in real life and you're picking out ONE Spurrier situation to justify not having a rule?
And your play in the Bama blast that you talk about? That's a GREAT point, for MY side of the discussion!
You're saying because you had an incredibly unrealistic result occur, and that it was memorable, that justifies not having a rule? To me, that memorable moment shoulder have been the immediate cause for a rule change.

Bama Blast Memorable moment? Check.
Bama Blast Ridiculously unrealistic 4th down result? Check.

I am not a statistician, but I'd be willing to say that 99.9% of college coaches PUNT or Kick FG's on 4th and 10+ or more with the game tied or leading.

In Dixie League it is 99% the OTHER way.

What's so confusing about a simple 4th down rule?

Again, just leave it the way it is. Not trying to create a big hullabaloo.

But, there being no 4th down rule at all is just crazy and is terribly unrealistic.

And, again, Bryan, you know I love you, but the argument that you dont want any more rules to complicate things?

What's so complicated that saying on 4th and 10 or more and the game is tied or leading you must Punt or Kick a FG?

My feeling is, you dont want to rock the boat, since almost all of the guys go for it on 4th and long, and you dont want any controversy, you want to keep the peace.

And that is honorable.

But, please, dont use the arguments you are using as why we should not have a 4th down rule.

Again, I love you Bro. You're are one of the reasons I even come here to this site. I have the highest possible respect for you as my brother.

But your arguments on this one are simply not valid.
