That "artificial TTQB" idea is great, well done on that one.

Default Gadget Plays....aka Deception

Gadget Plays Should Be At The Discretion Of The Offense(it Keeps The Defense Honest!) Unlike The Scramble Which Is Limited. Remember A Scramble Is Based On Obtaining Time,do 2 Extreme Pass Coverage Or Broken Play! (gadget Plays (1) Reverse (2)double Reverse (3) Statue Of Liberty (4)option....aka Veer!! (5) Flea Flicker ( 6) Hb Pass (7) Fake Field Goal (8) Qb Sneek (9) Tackle Eligible (10)and The World Known Audible. Catagory......(deception)...note To Perform These Feats One Must Be Diverse Offensively.

Default QB pitching to the RB on the Option

Dave,
You forgot one thing regarding the pitch on the option.
It has been mentioned here b4...the QB can pitch the ball to the RBeven if he is slightly in front of the QB, as long as the RBs base is not totally passed the QBs base (length). I hope this makes sense???

You are right. Through playing the option all day we discovered that to have the running back equal to or behind the QB to allow the automatic pitch is unrealistic. There were many times where the RB was slightly ahead of the QB because the QB's base was turned at a different angle but the play still looked right.

I updated the rule in this post and I think it plays well.

In this pic #92 has not tackled the QB yet and he is engaged with the lineman so #32 (jennings fig) is eligible to receive the pitch. In this case his bas is behind the QB's. Pursuit has to come from the linebacker #56.

This was taken before the defense angled. Yes Reg you get to react before the pitch but at that time you don't know if the QB will keep or pitch. This way the O gets to read like the real option.

Default When would the defender...

have the opportunity to react. You know when that pitch comes off from the QB, there is a reaction to the path of the ball, right?

Question about the option: what if the offense never turns off the switch? Is it just a QB run? Or can the offense pitch anytime (like 20 yards downfield)? But in that case, what about the 10-yard downfield adjust rule for the defense?

One possibility: once the QB gets 5 yards downfield (between 5-10 yards), it becomes a QB run. The offense must turn off the switch and hand it to the defense.

Second question: the LAEFL has a rule that all 3 backfield players can't be headed in the same direction at the start of the play. This was to prevent the 3-up-the-gut scrum play. Is that rule in effect on the option?

Reg,
When the board is stopped, the O must either tell the D to adjust, or say pass. If he (O) decides to pass or pitch the D gets to adjust all un-engaged players, and that is the D's opportunity to react to the pitch, or pass completion.

Ned,
If the offense never turns off the switch, then YES it is a QB run, and the rules from the LAEFL apply. The QB can not pitch once beyond the (LOS) .
I only ran the option play with one back flanking the QB, never with two. I guess we did apply the LAEFL principal of only 2 backs can be headed in the same direction. I think it would be ok for all 3 backs to run to the left or right, but not up the middle. Tell me what you think. Hopefully Dave will chime in on this one. There may be something that I'm over looking on this one.

Just spoke with Dave, and that's it Ned...left or right, but not up the gut.
