Default How About...

A National Tournament of Champions. Where the 2 finalists from all the regional tournaments get together for one overall championship? Like what is wanted in real college football. Yeah - we might not get everyone there - but this could be a start. I think most of theregional tourneys like having their tourney in their home area anyway?

Just a twist on your great idea.

Default The Vegas report

I'm about to head out for the Hover Dam tour. My real treat will be when Broncoman (mike turner) comes to get me out of this casino for some MF action!!!

Matt brings up some great points about this convention proposal. I like the idea of combining the tourneys according to regions.

Dre, you will have to do more work than just throwing out the idea. Come with some numbers, and cost. Build it, and they will come.

Well i gotta go, wish me luck. I will post some pix.

Sorry B.A.M. I won't be able to be at the season opener. I will still be out here in Vegas. Mozeek, give me a call dude!

Default Not Trying To Save Christmas

SIVERHORSE,

The purpose of the post was to throw an idea out there and see who wan't to come together and make this work.DID YOU NOTICE ONLY ONE ENTITY CAME ON HERE WITH A RESOUNDING YES! Im just putting the idea out there that this can be done. I was hoping all tourney rep's would sign up and say yes let's try this. I am not doing any ground work for something many don't want to see happen. ONE GUY CAN'T PUT THE ENTIRE HOBBY ON HIS BACK AND CARRY IT.

IT REALLY SHOULD BE THE MANUFACTURERS WORKING TOGETHER FOR A COMPREHENSIVE GAMEPLAN FOR THE COACHES AND THE HOBBY AS A WHOLE. The only thing i see now are coaches picking and choosing what tourney they wan't to attend next year when the can attend all of them in one shot.

I guarantee that if all manufacturers were super close friends and business came second, this would have been done already. It's amazing that there is this company where all of the bosses from around the u s (many offices) come together and send all of it's employees(from all over the u s) on vacation together with there immediate family members on a exoctic island for a week. It's like an expensive picnic in BERMUDA. ARUBA, ETC ETC. If half the bosses said no im not doing that then it probably would not happen. (I KNOW IT'S A TAX RIGHT OFF). WE ARE NOT ASKING THE MANFACTURERS TO PAY FOR IT JUST PLAN IT FOR THE EMPLOYEES OF THE HOBBY. Ofcourse with umpteen coaches helping to plan it.

It bothers me that 10year old's can sit in a room a play XBOX for 12 hours a day(on the weekends) and grown men can't talk to each other for 5 minutes due to something many coaches don't know and probably won't care about once that hotel room door closes.

IS BUSINESS KILLING THIS HOBBY OR LACK OF UNDERSTANDING ONE ANOTHER ?

I JUST HEARD DONALD TRUMP ON THE RADIO SAYING HE HAS MANY BUSINESS FRIENDS THAT DO EXACTLY WHAT HE IS DOING. They alway's meet on the golf course, at various functions at each others mansions, they go to each other's grand openings of whatever new venture they are launching. And what do we have here, some, not just manufacturers unwilling to reach out to each other over what, (A BASE, A FIGURE, A RULE SET)IN JUST A WORD, A BLANKING TOY

WE are letting a plastic toy divide us. I have met some incredible people throughout this hobby and now some don't talk to me anymore due to extreme pettiness.

example, i was at a tourney (it was they last day at the very end, i was asking greg hardmon and his girlfriend will they be at another paticular upcoming tourney. I ASKED BECAUSE MAYBE I LIKED HIM AS A COACH/PERSON AND WANTED TO HOOK UP WITH HIM AGAIN. The head of said tourney was mad because i inquired about another tournament at his event. IT WAS THE VERY END, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, YOU JUST HAD A SUCCESSFUL TOURNEY. MIND YOU I JUST DROP $300 ON HIS PRODUCT'S IN THE SAME BREATH. DO YOU THINK HE WAS MAD AT THAT "I DON'T THINK SO". I LIKE THE GUY AND HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM SINCE. This is the stuff im taliking about)

WE ARE LETTING A TOY RUIN RELATIONSHIPS THAT WERE FORMED DUE TO THIS HOBBY

i never played these little reindeerl games in high school and not going to start now.

US REGULAR COACHING FOLK ARE NOT MAKING ANY MONEY FROM THIS !!!!!

MAN IS HIS OWN WORST ENEMY, THERE IS NO REASON WHY EVERYONE CANT SEE THIS THROUGH.

REMEMBER , IT'S JUST A TOY, THOSE 10 YEAR OLD'S WOULD LAUGH AT US IF THEY EVER GOT WIND OF WHAT'S GOING ONl

Default Wow!

MANTARAY DRE,

Wow...you have me at a loss for words to that response. I really think you are making all this out to be a little more than what it is. In my opinion, if we all lived in the same region or even in the same state I think getting everyone in the hobby together in one place would be easy. Since we are all spread out across the whole country I think it is very difficult to make things happen...but not impossible. My point in my earlier post was that you had an great idea, but people just need more information before they just jump up and say "okay lets do it". If I have learned one thing in life is that if you want something to happen, then you need to take the reigns and get things rolling. That is what Lynn has done with the MFCA...that is what Reggie has done...that is what George Diamond has done...and the list goes on and on. I will call around in Las Vegas if you would like me to put something together to help your vision come true...I am not afraid of doing a little leg work. Just let me know what hotels you are interested in and I will start making some phone calls. Now is a good time to get prices, what is offered in Vegas etc., so we can present the idea to everyone in two weeks in Canton. That is the forum in which we can get everyone to openly discuss it and plan.

Furthermore, the MFCA meeting on Friday August 1st is our first real meeting as an organization. It is the planning meeting for which we will promote the hobby and come up with a 5 year plan of attack. I think you will see a different approach to the hobby, when we are talking about organizational goals, rather on how the tourney is going to be run during the convention. Once we get more organized, then the sky is the limit for this hobby.

I am sorry you feel the way you do about the manufacturers and their apparent lack of working together. I for one don't see it...I only see guys who want to get together in fellowship and have a good time. I admittedly don't make many tourneys, but I will tell you that the one's I have made and the coaches I have met...not one of them has ever been unfriendly to me...quite the opposite...we have a great group of guys in this hobby and I am sure we can all learn to Play together.

Put your bad feelings aside...take a deep breath and try, try again...our cup in this hobby is always half full in my book...

God Bless

Matthew Culp

Default Dre.....???

I fell your pain Dre, but I look at things from this perpective...Wolf already spearheaded an event that could be the end all be all of gatherings for the Miniature football community. Its in August in Canton, Ohio and its been set up for a long while and I hope eveybody can make it...but they reality is they won't and for several factors which is disappointing. I think people like the idea that you talk about but lets face it, tournaments are mainly regional events, with the exception of some long distance travellers which add something special to those tournaments that are fortunate enough to draw them. I see the multitude of tournaments as a realistic and good thing- more opportunities to play and to build regional support for the hobby. I agree for someone who wants to travel to an event or two (or three or more) it can make it confusing and challenging as to which ones to select, however for the majority of people who don't travel their reality is to play regionally. For travellers Miggle used to be "the" big event (manufacturer), and the Brawl is a great event (coaches run), now we have the Canton event (run by MFCA). When Reg's CBSMF tournament in Las Vegas happens it looks like that will be a great event and I am very excited for that.

Bottom line- we need to let the businesses be businesses and the coaches be coaches. The MFCA is the coaches, lets not forget that. The MFCA is probably your best bet for trying to create an event like this- so please everyone come to Canton and support the MFCA event to make it the best it can be!
Joe

Default .

myself, i have been holding back on commenting but i want to just say....

Miggle, Seawall, Canton. Arent those enough events to have that attract national coaches? And when i say enough, i mean a satisfying plenty.

as far as regionals go like in the Ohio area, Maryland, Cali, Harrisburg, etc., arent those tourneys just perfect for the guys who are in the area that CANNOT GET AWAY TO VEGAS FOR A WEEK? as long as George has a tourney down there, i can get there with no family hassles. they are cool with me heading down 78 2 1/2 hrs away for a few days. nice and easy, good and simple. VEGAS??? whole nother dynamic my brother. and if i was going to go to vegas, i wouldnt want to spend whole time playing electric football. there is just too much to do out there.
but this is just me, but i am sure there are other family guys out there who feel the same.

Look, its a GREAT IDEA. but at the same time, regional tourneys absolutely serve a purpose and are good for the MF community. no, not everyone can make all of them, but its not necessary for everyone to make all of them for this hobby to thrive.

then, the masses, can get together at the other national events and that would be cool.

But Dre, i have told you before, you come up with great ideas, but when presented, they are borderline fantasy. you gotta develop the idea some more before you present it to the forum.
