Brett can still play...
I don't have all the details...but from what I do know, it sounds like Favre "decided" about his retirement a lot sooner after the season ended than he has in the past.
This seems likely because, in the past, he has "held the Packers hostage" (as others have noted) and decided much later on in the summer, that he was still going to play. So it appears to me that he MAY have been pushed by the Packers to decide earlier than he would have wanted, so that the Packers could draft accordingly. If that is the case, then I see no problem with the Packers asking him to do so. So, he retires...but then as the pain from the loss in the championship game begins to fade...he thinks, "I can still play". It's probably happened just about the same way for Brett the last 3-4 years...except this year he actually retired at the time when in years past he was just "thinking" that he would. So now we have the problem. The Packers have invested time into Rodgers and altered their draft accordingly. They can't just hand over the team to Favre. Favre on the other hand, does not want to come back to WATCH his team play. And frankly, he is still good enough to QB more than 1/2 the teams in the league. The only logical answer is that the Packers trade him. The Packers had already figured he was gone and have moved forward without him. So what's the big deal? If they trade him, Brett gets to play and the Packers get something in return. At this point, nobody is going to look 100% like the "good guy"...so cut your loses...man up and move on! |

Right,
the Packers should go forward with Rogers, but don't hold a legend to the bench, let the cat play until he's done! |

maybe but one question...???
Why does he retired a couple of months ago and now, a couple of days before training camp, decide to go back like nothing happen. It is a really selfish behaviour even if Brett Favre is one of my 10 greatest football players of all time. Very disapointed of him
That's my 2 cents Benster

I guess if you were Bret Farve and you knew you made a mistake , By retireing, The only thing to do is come back and play......................He needs to get it out of his system . When he gets older and really does retire he will have no regrets to come back and haunt him. So people let Bret have his day and we probably will be the better for it...............

He could've come back. According to reports, in late March he informed the Packers he wished to return and they agreed and they were going to have a meeting with him, and then he changed his mind again at the last minute. You can't really blame the Packers at all trying to move forward after that.

As long as he is able to play and compete in the league why not let him play?
Blanda played until he was 48. Admittedly he was relegated to PATs for the last 2 seasons. However, (Weirdwolf this is gonna hurt) I remember him coming off the bench against the Chiefs and driving the Raiders to two touchdowns and he was throwing the football. He was 46 at the time. Steve DeBerg was playing at 37 and he was more than a competent QB. All he did was win games. Favre has more talent than DeBerg. Heck, he is more talented than most of the NFL QBs now. It's a combination of his talent and the overall lack of QB talent coming out of college. I believe if he doesn't get hurt he can play another 2 seasons and then hang it up. I wish the Packers would outright release him and see if anyone wants him. If the Packers thought he wouldn't be a factor they would outright release him like any other player that could not contribute, but they are not doing that. If he were to go to any team in the Central Division and they have any offensive line, receivers, and just enough running game it may make for an interesting season in the NFC Central and NFL. |

Trade talks are looming...it looks like Favre is going to either Tampa Bay, Kansas City or Minnesota...
