Looking for opinions
I have posted in the new coaches section but was advised to put a post here as well.
What is the best field 308, 620 or something else. What do people prefer and why? Is there anywhere to buy pro teams besides e-bay- Is there someone reliable on e-bay that any of you have purchased from. Any advice for someone looking to buy a new field and players for the first time in over 20 years? Thanks in advance for all replies! |

I have a 308 and it is great. It has power. It is way wider than most boards, which really opens up gameplay.
I would say you should start with a team or 2 from miggle. As you get more serious into MF, you can buy a custom team, or paint your own from FF.net figures or SIW figures. Hope this helps. Taylor |

Michael, Thanks for the feedback. Do you use the 67 size players since the field is bigger?

Field feedback
Many of the guys here recommend taking baby steps...a Tudor 620 off of ebay and then get a big board after you've had a little time in the hobby. With the exception of the Miggle deluxe board, you really can't go wrong with any of the boards, 308, Watts, Buzzball, homemade custom boards, etc. I speak with experience, I own a rose bowl 308, a Michigan Watts board, and I made a wonderful homemade board and shared the recipe in the Tweak magazine. I view the various board surfaces in the similar way tennis has different playing surfaces (hard court, grass, clay)...I enbrace it and I like all of my boards.
The 308 is a wood board and most all other boards in the hobby are metal boards. Many people prefer the metal boards, some prefer the wood. The 308 wood board is very lively and durable and this board plays very fast (see various FF.net youtube videos). The Watts board plays more like a tudor 620- it is painted and actually uses 620style motors (you can probably find youtube videos of MF playing on this surface- these fields have got the trademark air brush painted grass and stencil numbers), and my homemade board uses a metal field coupled with a field cover from Jimbo and rotary motor (see youtube video posted by Jimbo of similar Illinois field construction to see how this runs). Hope that helps. I see you are in Columbus Ohio, why don't you check with those local guys to get some first hand experience. Joe

Next time we get together in our league, swing on over and get a look at custom figures and boards like you have never seen before. The game has come along way in the past 20 years.
What part of Columbus do you live in ? |

I suggest taking your time as was mentioned, start out slow. Cut your teeth on a nice vintage 620, buy a few teams on Ebay, there are always unopened NFL teams for sale.
Then the best thing to do is get out to a local league or tourney as was also mentioned and see the various boards yourself. It never hurts to have a vintage 620 in the closet, even if you end up getting a big board. I have a big board, but still enjoy an old school ironman scrimmage on the 620. MF at it's purest form in my opinion. The key to a 620 is vintage, do not buy the new one from Miggle.
