Newbie's 1st attempt at painting
Hello
One of the new kids on the block here. Been looking at all of the fantastic work you guys have been doing and I was inspired. So I took a shot at the home team - Texans in Battle Red. Figures are from Excalibur vibrating board game. Be nice, again this was my 1st shot at it. I have new found repsect for the painters on this board. Decided to go old school minus decals. Ordered jersey numbers and will hopefully put them on next week. So how did I do? All constructive criticism is welcomed.

You did well for your first time. I can't paint a lick so I am always impressed when someone attempts to paint. Hopefully some of the painters in the hobby will give there opinion.

I'm seeing a lot of potential there. I would suggest getting a good magnifying glass, some toothpicks and a razor knife. Use the knife to shave down the toothpick into a really fine point. Then use the toothpick to 'touch up' some areas where the paint is a little rough. Particullary the jersy at the arms and the socks. I'm not sure if you painted the flesh yet or not. If you did, there's a couple of spots where you accidently got some red paint on there. Just go back and touch them up with the flesh. Sometimes I think the difference between a good paint job and a bad one is simply patience and perserverence, the willingness to go back and correct mistakes as many times as is needed until it looks right. I've had times when I had to re-do a mistake 5, 8, 10 times or more. I look back at my earlier teams and I realise that the main difference between now and then is that I'm a lot more patient now. Keep up the good work. It will only get better and better. By the way, I think you're a much better painter than you are a photographer. Turn the flash off and manually focus.

by the way. How long does it take you to finish a team. I guess I rushed through this one doing it in 6 hours huh?

Teams
Nice Job. As I am not a good painter, I admire anyone who trys. I paint, decal and appy cunis straps and face masks. It takes me two-three months to do a team of 50-60 players.
Tme depends upon distractions and research for teams. Most of the coaches on this site can help out with any questions you have. GOOD LUCK, and enjoy playing with your new team.

Hey man, i like those Texans alot. For your 1st try, it is a great start. Al gave you some great pointers, pointers that point toward me as well with my painting. go back and correct mistakes. its cool for them to look like anything while you are painting, its the finished product that counts. also, the part of patience and perseverance is HUGE! But keep going, do more teams, and you will see your work get better and better.
BTW- i returned the excalibur and got another one. they are like $25 now, so i might get a few more. why? no idea!
