F5 Base Assessment?

Anybody out there have any opinions on the new F5 bases? I have not had a lot of time to work with them yet.

Me and Geno are meeting this weekend..
Getting teams, figures, bases closer to being ready for the Seawall Brawl..
And we'll be exchaning notes on our tweaking notes to see what has worked best for us.

We should have an email out with tips to those who have purchased the bases shortly..

Geno tells me he is getting speed out of them.. A goal we hadn't really worked towards in design.. but hoped we might get just as well..

I do know the Sears professional flat nose pliers work best.. (black and a tan/gold handle) $9.99 a pair..There's more prong and since my grip isn't the strongest in the world.. I need as much help as I can get.. And these pliers have bigger grips on the handles, making less work to get the prongs tweaked.

They definitely like to have the prongs clipped.. Which is like just about everything else when tweaking for strength. I will see what Geno has come up with at this point.. I've only tweaked about 10-12 of them at this point, and out of that dozen I could field a starting 5 on the offensive/defensive line. And I'm not anything more than an average tweaker IMO.

Kansas Bill, Are those prongs available on the Sears website or should they be at my local Sears store? Right now I am using the small needle nose pliers, but it appears most people don't like those too much. I'm getting my bases to pretty much do what I want them to do, but I don't know how much strength or speed I have compared to a tournament base.

These things definately aren't for beginners or the feint of heart. I put 4 of them on the board and they didn't even move. So, I gave the prongs a gentle squeeze and they all came to life. I will say that the prongs were easier to squeeze then most of the Miggle bases I tried to tweak. I have a little arthritus in my hands and it hurts to squeeze too hard. I didn't have to get to that point with the F5 bases. Once I squeezed them a little, they ran pretty good. I'm not an expert at getting maximum strength out of bases, but the F5 went toe to toe with a couple of orange TTC's that I thought were pretty strong.

i like what i have been able to do with the bases thus far. but, i haven't used them in league play yet, so i''ll see then just how well i did with them.

Yep.. those pliers are in my local Sears store...
the part number on the package is this..
a smaller 9 with a _ under it.. and 45668

I've only tweaked the F5 Base for strength so far, and they hang with my strongest bases and also with some TTC bases I've had done by others. Very nice product.

I've been able to get some good performance of these bases. By just flattening out the prongs, then clipping them down then a nice wet sand on the prongs.

I have only spent time tweaking 2 of these bases and got mixed results.

#1 - out the bag it hobbled down the field. Next, mediuum press of just the back prongs and some flames, i made it just fly around the field, limited strength at this time. raced it arcoss the grit and it picked up some 'girth' and it could handle some TTC. it still maintained it's speed so that's where I stopped.

#2 - heated the tool and applied medium pressure to the front prongs. them just pulled the back. Result: DL strong, but not moving. dragged across the grit and it moved a little. Used flame to regain some speed, but that wiped out the power. curled the bak prongs and applied hard pressure to the back and then ran across the grit and it gained back some power, but was not a good runner, better made for a run-stopper.
