Default 1975 - Vikings vs Cowboys - Hailmary game

watching this game right now onDVD. WOW!! this is football. the outdoor stadium with the wet conditions, but more so, THE NON ENTERTAINING-PUT ON A SHOW- telecast. its just a simple football game being broadcasted on television. looks like your local high school game, just with a bunch of pro players and hall of famers. THIS IS FOOTBALL!!!!!
the espn and nbc games are just a show, a joke.
and so are todays players and todays game, as i am learning as i type.

OBSERVATIONS:

Stuabach was tough and did not always do that qb slide.

Tarkenton was tough and did not always do that qb slide.

That Minnesota front 4 was crazy!!!!

Harvey Martin and Too Tall are freakin beasts!!!!!!!!!

The announcers just now speculated as to how good Randy White might be in a few years. He was just a rookie then playing on special teams.

The Cowboys had GREAT, CRISP execution. My boys of this era need to watch a few these games, with Romo sittin in the front row.

Tom Landry is wearing his normal suit and tie attire, BUT WITH BIG OL SNOWBOOTS ON WITH THE PANT LEGS TUCKED IN.
just not the look i expected to see as the camera panned down.

This game is great. both teams are killing each other and doing their thing.

I watched this same game over Christmas break. What people don't know, is that the Cowgirls had 4th and 17 the play before Peason pushed off.
Bitter?? Not really

Default This is one of those games I will...

always be bitter about!

I still "KNOW" Drew Pearson pushed off on Nate Wright. It was obvious being a Viking fan.

That is how football was meant to be played, though. In the elements! Bloomington, Mn with 10 degree weather and snow.

I wish we saw more of that. I love the "cookie-cutter" domes but I certainly love the nostalgia of Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Kezar in San Francisco, the Vet, Yankee and Shea Stadiums, and Metropolitan Stadium.

Drew pushed off!

I watched that game a couple of weeks ago on NFL Network. It was a great game. Love the old school uniforms and look of the game back then. A real weather element game.

don't even bring the game up!!!!!!! I can't stand to watch it!!!!!!!!!(smile) When I first saw the game with my Dad, he told me to watch the end and so I did, and Roger Staubach threw a bomb to Drew Pearson, but then I saw the defender fall as Pearson caught the ball and waltzed into the endzone, then I saw a flag was thrown and I thought, GREAT, Off. Pass interference, but the ref called Def. Pass interference. I may have only been about 7, but I was mad, and after that I hated Roger Staubach, til I got older I realized, he's just the person who threw the pass.
Especially, this is how the '75 Vikings season ended.

I was 10 years old and a huge Viking fan at the time. I had put on my Viking helmet, jacket, warm up pants, and had my Viking pennant in hand. I was going outside to get on my bike and ride up and down my street to celebrate the Vikings big win. And to rub it in a little on all my friends who were Cowboy fans. I mean I was growing up in Dallas.

Anyway I am outside on the porch getting my bike ready to go and my dad hollers at me to come back inside. They were showing the replay of the Cowboy touchdown. I could not believe it. I thought on the replay I saw a penalty flag on the field, but it was an orange or something that had been thrown from the stands. I was so dejected as my friends began running to my house to rub it in on me. So there I stood in full Viking regalia getting pummeled by my buddies.

I learned quite a lesson that day. I think the Vikings would be doing themselves a favor if their next stadium was an outdoor one. You can't beat a good "weather" game.
