To finish my above story, years later I was playing softball against a team that had Drew Pearson and Preston Pearson on it. We played them on a regular basis and they were nothing but cool. So one time Drew was on second base and I was playing shortstop. I told him the story I just posted in between pitches and he laughed like crazy. He though it was the funniest thing. I told him I thought he pushed off and should have been penalized. He told me he had every right to that ball and was only fighting for "position" to make a play. Then he gave me a wink and told me thanks for sharing my story.
My team did beat his that night so I guess you could say I got my revenge on him in a small way. He was a first class guy all the way and ultra competitive as you would expect, even playing slow pitch softball.
